Proviso East high school in Maywood, where he discovered his vocal talents in the magicals a vocal and performing arts class where he did graduate. He claims to have been caught up in the lure of the street gangs on the south side of Chicago after a drive by shooting that left his friend injured this led him to dig deep into his music.

According to his mother a young Killa Kat used to wake us up at night making sounds on his keyboard with drum patterns the sound was very low but they could still here them she didn't mind it because his interest in music kept him out of trouble. Eventually, she bought him a boom box for Christmas and thus sparked a deeper interest in beats and lyrics. He began freestyling, writing rhymes, and followed the music of many artists like Dr. Dre, and Kay Gee & LL popular at the time. It is stated by his mother that he walked and wrote at the same time young killa was hardly seen without a pen and paper in his hand

In his neighborhood, Clifton was known as " The Emecc Killa the nickname that eventually developed into his stage name, "Kill-a- Kat". This upset his mother which is a cat lover and didn't find it to be professional to speak of killing cat's but with some convincing she understood that his title had nothing to do with kittens at all.

Killa Kat born Clifton Hunt to a teenage father that was incarcerated in Joliet prison and a teenage mother who was in a street gang on Chicago's west side took the beat down to get out of the gang and give her son Clifton/ Killa Kat a better life, but living and growing up in these violent surroundings played with his future and then he decided to step behind the mic, Killa Kat said this decision may have saved his life.

Killa Kat began his love for the of the martial arts when he was 5 1/2 years old that's when he attented school for Taekwondo which is a Korean martial art and the national sport of South Korea. It is also regarded as one of the world's most popular martial art in terms of number of practitioners. Korean, tae ? ? means "foot"; kwon ? ? means "fist"; and do ? ? means "way"; so taekwondo is loosely translated as "the way of the foot and fist". Killa Kat's interest in the martial art has led him into several domains: as with many other arts, it combines combat techniques, self-defense, sport, exercise, meditation and philosophy.
