Kiko Barba
DJ since 1996. Kiko is one of the few representative names in Madrids nightlife.
He began his career as a hip-hop DJ and soon was spinning all sort of trends that embrace electronic music.
His style and character are based on his openess to music making him a very versatil DJ.
Along his trajectory he has been mixing all kind of staff; electro, house, techno.
In 2000, Kiko started as a resident at the after hours XXY, and it is in this moment that got to be well known.
In the same year he also performed @Long Play and @Coppelia, those being his best known residences.
At that time all the clubs in the city started demanding him and he started to spin as special guest in
all sort of parties like the rave Goa, where he is often invited. He also gets residence @Land club
every Sunday with Jess Gonzlez located at the mythical Pasapoga lounge and performing as well at
the Pasapogas set in the Pin Up Ibiza.And now he is resident with J.L Magolla
in DEEP club.
His great contact with the public and his fire-resistant sets allow him to pierce the frontiers of
Madrid and bring his sets to clubs like La Real (Oviedo), Oh (Cdiz), Metro (Alicante),
La Casa Rosa (Mlaga), On (Murcia) or La Traviata (Badajoz).
The restless mind of this DJ and his relationship with dancefloors make him easily assimilate the constant
evolution of electronic music because over all, Kiko is considered an insatiable consumer of club culture
and it is likely he will be seen dancing on any floor where good music is playing.
Kiko has always been surrounded by people who perform as well as him, compromised with the evolution of this
subculture and taking part in different collectives. Innerlife, MiMusik and the project Scuba Dive Music
are some of them. Their intention is to combat the lack of promotion that artists are suffering.
They begin to create labels to be able to publish their own productions and in this way, they get to be better known
in the rest of Europe. A result of this project has been his colaboration with the collective Stock5
and his performance at the Monsters of House Festive (Munich).
Elo,David Mariscal and Adolfo Velayos are also members of the label MiMusik with Kiko. MiMusik was born as a platform for artists
in Madrid. Publishing themes from different artists without following a particular line.
Kiko has also been invited to the Rex Club in Paris by Jeff K, head of the labels Crack & Speed and Silvernetwork.
He is also contributing to some projects with Esperanza Records, a new label founded by Kasper and Papol (Rdt)
on which international artists are mixed with producers from Madrid and which the first reference is a maxi
of Kiko Barba with remixes of Troy Pierce (Minus) and Butane (Alphahouse Rec).
Nowadays Kiko is developing sets of electronic music focused on the dancefloor and in harmony with the new trends
of minimal house, the most classic sound from Chicago and Detroit and the variations arised from techno
and acid house are combined on his sets resulting in absolutely energic and enjoyable sets
KIKO BARBA
Residente mensual en Deep desde junio 04, Kiko comenzo su carrera de DJ en 1996. Actualmente considerado como uno de los nombres mas propios de Madrid, Kiko empezo pinchando Hip Hop, para luego enamorarse del House, lo cual da buena cuenta de su estilo pulido, ritmico, de bajos redondos y decididamente dirigido a la pista. Fue miembro de Innerlife DJs, junto con Alvaro Cabana, Ivan Smoka y Vasco Ispirain, en lo que se podria llamar la segunda generacion de DJs de clubs de Madrid. Desde entonces y hasta la fecha siempre ha demostrado su intuicion a la hora de mirar hacia la pista y una vocacion musical abierta, sin prejuicios y en constante evolucion.
Es a partir del ao 2000 que Kiko comienza a despuntar en locales de Madrid como el XXY (conocido after de ese momento), pero su carrera despega fundamentalmente con su residencia en la primera etapa de Coppelia, donde tambien estaban sus compaeros de Innerlife, bajo la direccion musical de Fernado Gullon. Fue residente en el breve pero gratamente recordado Land (domingos en Pasapoga) junto con Jesus Gonzalez (Coppelia/101). Tras varias presentaciones como DJ invitado, JL Magoya le propone la residencia mensual de Deep en Divino, que actualmente lleva adelante en la nueva etapa del club en Chango.
Desde el 2002 hasta la fecha Kiko se ha presentado en clubes como Pin Up (Ibiza), La Real (Oviedo), Ohu (Cadiz), en numerosas ocasiones en Metro (Alicante), La Casa Rosa (Malaga), On (Murcia) o La Traviata (Badajoz). Fuera de Espaa se ha presentado en la fiesta Deep en el Rex de Paris, organizada por Jef K (Crack & Speed/ Sivernetwork) en noviembre 05 y mas recientemente en el festival Monsters Of House Festive en Munich (Collective Stock5, abril 06).
Como todo DJ de autentica vocacion musical, Kiko esta desarrollando una muy interesante y ascendente carrera como productor. Creador y director, junto con el0, Adolfo Velayos y David Mariscal, del sello MiMusik, una de las pocas plataformas de musica electronica de Madrid, por lo cual el merito es doble. Ha publicado junto con ellos tres maxis durante 2005 y 2006, distribuidos por Decoder. Tambien es artista de Esperanza, sello de Madrid dirigido por Kasper & Papol siendo remezclado por gente como Troy Pierce (Minus)y Butane (Alphahouse)y ademas, ha publicado junto con sus compaeros de mimusik un maxi para el sello aleman WIR subsello de treibstoff rec.
Ha compartido cabina con dj,s como Richie Hawtin, Steve Bug, Luciano, Magda, Dj T, Derrick May o Radioslave entre otros. Presente en todos sus trabajos esta su marca personal: electronica con groove.
El estilo de Kiko, que como en todos los casos ha ido evolucionando con los aos, es fundamentalmente un groove de 128 bpm sobre el cual el construye un paisaje sonoro donde da cabida a todas sus influencias musicales, desde sus omnipresentes bajos gordos, percusiones Minimal, acordes Detroit y lineas Acid. Es un DJ de club en el mejor sentido de la palabra, de esos que no se sienten satisfechos hasta que no ven la pista moverse, pero sin echar mano de recursos faciles u obvios. Un profesional apasionado y entregado a la musica y a la cultura de clubs, dadle un par de platos y el pondra a todo el mundo a bailar.
