KID GIB recorded their first full-length album at Catherine North Studios in Hamilton in 2003, teaming up with producer Dan Achen (City and Colour, The Marble Index). The album consisted of 11 pure double time pop punk anthems; enough to receive airplay on College radio across Ontario, and sell copies from Germany to Japan.
As our borders in Ontario quickly became outgrown, we once again hit the studio in the winter of 2005 with City and Colour producer Dan Achen to record a second full-length album -- some would call it our debut record. In the fall of that year we took 4 of the album's 10 completed songs and hit the road for 10 months, touring mostly in the USA.
For the bulk of 2006, KID GIB toured relentlessly, selling thousands of copies of our 4 song "Sampler," across most of the United States and eastern Canada.
On May 1st, 2007, we put out our official debut album backed by Universal Music/Fontana North/Subciety Records. We continued to pound the pavement all across Canada and the USA teaming up with the likes of Shiny Toy Guns, Faber Drive, and Mariana's Trench among others. Two music videos with airplay on MUCHMUSIC, and two radio singles later, KID GIB set their sights somewhere completely different.trying to penetrate niche markets in Europe and Asia.
2008 brought the release of our debut record on Kick Rock Invasion Record Label in Japan!
Masa and the Kick Rock team are some of the most well organized and amazing people ever! Within weeks of signing our deal we were asked to team up with FOUR YEAR STRONG (I Surrender/Decaydance), EVERY AVENUE (Fearless Record), and 48 MAY (Warner - New Zealand/Australia). We headed out in a tour bus drinking our faces off and rocking the f*ck out over 8 crazy days in and around Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka - Japan.
After this we took some time off touring to play local shows and festivals around Ontario with bands like Thornley, The Trews, Sloan, Rides Again, and Ten Second Epic.
Our unofficial last show was on October 31st, 2008 in Kitchener, Ontario with Ten Second Epic and other good friends. We've since been on an unofficial indefinite hiatus.
We're all still great friends and that's what matters.
We've all moved on to different personal ad professional pursuits, but each member remains involved in very aspects of music; Bobby is tour managing and working for Universal Music Canada/Underground Operations, Nick works in marketing and is doing some artist management and writing new music, and Nolan & Eric are building a studio, recording, and writing killer tunes.
