Key To The City is a new-wave band from Calgary, Canada.

As members of VAILHALEN, Chris Vail (vocals/guitar), Brent Gough (keyboards/vocals), Pablo Puentes (bass/vocals), and Joel Nye (drums) played music festivals such as Canadian Music Week, the Sled Island Festival, The Western Canadian Music Awards, and Austin's Folk Alliance. The band also toured extensively throughout Canada, in support of their 2005 critically acclaimed full-length album "Pop Violence" (Saved By Radio Records). They have been featured on Zed TV, CBC 3's "In Session", Much Music's "Going Coastal", and have earned features and cover stories in various Canadian music magazines, weeklies, and music web sites.

Vailhalen geared down for 2007/2008, allowing members to pursue other interests.

Joel Nye stayed busy with his other band, Hot Little Rocket. They toured China, played various music festivals and conferences, and recorded an album in Chicago with Steve Albini.

Carl Lukasewich moved to Chicago for three years, and did not open his guitar case once. He finally brought it out in January 2010 to reunite with he and Vail's old group Shecky Formé for the CJSW FM 25th Anniversary Party. During that show, he remembered "oh yeah, I'm amazing. I forgot!" and rejoined Key To The City in the summer of 2010.

Brent Gough took a sabbatical to travel extensively throughout Europe and Asia. He also joined Dojo Workhorse and has begun contributing song to that group in addition to his sideman duties.

Chris Vail opened up a live music venue/bar in Calgary, before spending a year playing in The Dudes, touring with them through Europe and Western Canada, and recording with them for their "Blood Guts Bruises Cuts" album.

Key To The City's latest album, "Owls Of Getchü" has been described as "rebellious" and "difficult". It was released in limited quantities at the end of 2009 by the band in Alberta only. The album is now available through Saved By Radio on (savedbyradio.com) and on itunes.

Though songs from "Pop Violence" still permeate Key To The City's live sets, the evolved group has adopted their name to reflect the change in the band's vibe. With less members, they are tighter, cleaner, and a stronger band than ever before.
