Ken Chatman

Kenyon O. Chatman is a percussionist, who has had a passion for music and an art since the age of three. He has been playing on a professional level since the age of 13. Due to his family's financial problems, he had to start beating on pots and pans, fishing buckets, and phone books before his grandmother purchased his first drumset for him. Despite growing up in a single parent home with three siblings, God has blessed him to overcome every obstacle up to the present day. At the age of eighteen he received professional guidance such as Herman Jackson (percussion instructor at Southern University and older brother of Randy Jackson from "American Idol"), Troy Davis (jazz funk legend and brother-in-law to Maurice Pearl, CEO of Mo-Sound Records), Alvin Batiste (clarinet jazz legend), as well as James Knowles (former drummer for R. Kelly, 12 Play Tour and Tyrone Davis). Throughout his musical journey he has had many joys and sorrow, but they have only helped him to hone his gift and maximize his potential. The road has been long and hard, but in short, it is only the beginning of his journey.
