Kemi Bennings :: Poet//Soul Singer

EXPERIENCE A FRESH AMALGAMATION OF WORD-SOUND & SUNSHINE.

A fusion of poet and soul singer, Kemi combines poetry, jazz, blues, house, gospel and soul genres to inspire a generation of artistic and social change.

A natural born poet, Kemi encountered the soul singer deep within her Southern roots. With inspiration from The Harlem Renaissance, the “juke joint”, The Civil Rights Movement and the evolution of humanity, her fusion of poet/soul singer emerged, transcribing the writing on the wall into music and song.

Through poetry, Kemi shares her personal journey as an artist inspired by a higher spirit. In her live performance, she shape shifts, transforms and evokes change. A modern-day Tubman, Kemi is a gateway, empowering freedom through peace, oneness and unity; her thought-provoking, new age conscious poetry challenges and inspires the audience. She candidly states, “Insomuch as art comes through conceptualization, the artist is connected to a higher spirit, a force compelling the artist to create visions of what lies within, or on the other side of that which transcends human consciousness.” Kemi has had the opportunity to share the stage with Sonia Sanchez, Nancy Wilson, Oscar Brown, Jr, and the Last Poets, to name a few.

She is author of Evolution, visionary and founder of Ministers Of Sound, Soul Sista’s Juke Joint, and A Great Day In Atlanta, and Cultivating Collective Thoughts. She is a native of Augusta, Georgia. She has performed in Atlanta, New York, Philadelphia, Memphis, Chicago, DC, London & Amsterdam.
