--Kelsy Davis & The Radical Soul's Break the Mold is aptly titled because they
don't stick to any prescribed genre or prototype for their musical journey. Is it
R&B? Yes Is it Funk? Yes. Is it Blues? Yes. Is it Rock? Yes. It is all of that and
much more. 'Slave to the Rhythm' is a excellent opening to this CD, because it is a
raw bluesy introduction to this CD. "I got my rhythm from my daddy, I got my
fire from my mom" Kelsy sings with so much emotion you know it is true. You are
able to feel this song because he feels the song and gives it to his listener. "Me &
My Window" is gentle slow groove about the being a songwriter. Its lyrics are
smartly written with lines like "I lay my teardrops down on the window pane". It
shows that he is storyteller and not just a singer. "Radical Soul" is like a call to
arms with its chant funk rock like chorus. It will have you singing "Can you feel
the radical souls?". The answer is yes. "Medicine" is the best joint on the CD. It
will have you hitting the repeat button. It has an old soul sound to it. It is like Sam
Cooke singing a blues song. It is song about longing and lust. "You know I need
it/You know I want it" he sings over a guitar groove. If you enjoy real music. I am
talking real live instrumentation. I am talking sanging, not just singing you should
get Break the Mold as fast you can. Michael - True Artist Entertainment--
--It's been a long time.
Last night I saw one of the dopest performances that I've seen in a VERY long time. Kelsy Davis is off the m@%* CHAIN!!!! If you hear about him ANYWHERE reasonably near your immediate vicinity. you need to RUN there and get a ticket! Kelsy Davis WORKS for every penny you pay. He is all gritty southern boy with that dirty dirty sound. I'm talkin' bout Soul raised in the backwoods of Carolina on fried catfish and okra. he gets out in the audience with you, he screams he hollas, he sweats and stomps. down home juke-joint type sh*t. His rendition of James Brown's classic, "This is a Man's World", Kelsy OWNED that. The Music is freakin Incredible!"
