Kay Nakayama aka Something Wonderful(Producer.Composer,Dj)



Jazz,Alternative and ambient music lover since his teenage years, Tokyo-born Kay studied Art and Design at Tama Art University. During that time he performed contemporary art using early computer graphics and live music in Tokyo clubs. His solo debut release Laura Palmer’s Theme as SOMETHING WONDERFUL produced by Haruomi Hosono who is an ex member of YMO (Yellow Magic Orchestra). Kay has been active alongside major artists, as a producer, composer and DJ both nationally and internationally. This has established his unique sound that is a mixture of ambient and dance music.



In 1996 he started his own record label CHILLSCAPE. His original track was licensed and released by Chillscape (Japan), Virgin Records (France), Matsuri Productions (U.K), Pokar Flat (German),Bambola Records (U.K), Return to the Source (U.K), Istar (Itaria), Fair Way Records (France), Tempest Recordings (Australia), etc. Also one of his more recent track is in the movie Bollywood Queen by Jaremy Wooding.



As well as collaborations with various musicians such as Haruomi Hosono,Yukihiro Takahashi( Y.M.O),Graham Massey (808 State),Bill Laswell, a living national treasure Noh Syonosuke Okura, Mixmaster Morris, Lenny Ibizarre and Kim Cascone etc.



In 2000 he formed the project INTELLIGENT JAZZ with the Drumer Akira Jimbo. It is based on a new jazz spirit with an experiment real jazz and electronic sounds. They are repeatedly having gigs with Bob James, the first Japanese jazz musician to sign the contract with Blue Note Records Terumasa Hino (trumpeter), Jamie Odell of Bays/Jimpster (Keyboardist & Producer), Kazumi Watanabe (Guitarist), Toshinori Kondo (Trumpeter) and with many more top artists.



Kay is one of the leading ambient producer.
