Kathy Watson

Most people describe me as musically diverse. I have sung pop, classical, musical theater, gospel and jazz all of my life and am now writing in most if not all of those genres. I studied music for over 20 years and I hold a Bachelor's and Master's degree in operatic performance, however, I like to think that this has not made my singing stiff or unimaginative. Rather, this has given me the background to step into song writing and the sound technical basis to sing in any style. My song writing and interpretive style are heavily influenced by my background in multiple genres of music.

I released my debut self titled CD in 1999 with independent publisher "New Pants Publishing". The CD was focused in adult contemporary/pop music and was well received. My freshman try earned me multiple nominations on the Grammy entry list that year. My second album was a culmination of material I was preparing for auditions and songs I loved to sing. Romancin' The Blues has been a big hit for young and old alike and reflects my love of the intimacy of piano and vocal performance. This album was also nominated in multiple categories for the Grammy entry list.

Along with songwriting I have always performed in live venues, most recentley focusing on classical music. I have been seen as a soloist at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. as well as at the MBSTIA music industry showcase, the Cutting Edge music industry showcase and the POPKOMM stage in Cologne, Germany. I have received air play on the Armed Forces Radio Network, Europe and am now writing for my third album of original music with jazz phenom Joel Holmes and am based out of Baltimore, Maryland.
