For the past 10 years the Dirtville based producer, rapper and promoter, Karmic Basis, has been consistently pushing the frontiers of Desert area hip hop. His expansive musical boundaries are evident with every album, beat and local rap artist he exploits at good use. Karmic Basis's style is best described as a unique blend of world, jazz, rock, soul, R&B meshed with with good old fashioned street hop and topped off with a southern yet classic California traditional style. Karmic Basis' first mixtape, The Trenth Sessions '98, developed a kult following among valley area hip hop heads. Listeners were drawn in by his use of roughneck rap flows by the Allied Element MCs layered over intriguing samples and live instrumentation. When ever I'm in the studio with this cat, he doesn't say much but rather lets his keyboard do all the big talk.
With his latest effort titled WSXSW, KB self-produced, rapped and collaborated with the East Valley's most talented MC's. WSXSW, in short, is monumental in that its a culmination of a few city OG'z, as well as a demonstration of the talent and work that Karmic Basis puts forth. The album features R&B, Soul, Street Hop and other flavors from Karmic Basis' arsenal of sound, developed since 1998.
