Born in Texas, and inexplicably proud of such a dubious origin,
Karen was raised in Pacoima and let down with a resounding
thud on the outskirts of West Hollywood (Beverly Hills adjacent.)
Evicted from her apartment in the late 90s, all her things sold
by the court to pay the back rent, Karen set off on the road,
just a girl and her boyfriend's car. (Charges of Grand Theft
Auto were later dropped.)
During her years of homelessness, Karen amassed an impressive collection of CDs which, unfortunately, she was forced to sell in order to support her growing dependence on fine
chocolates.
Despite these seemingly endless setbacks, Karen eventually
became known for her impassioned defense of fecklessness,
hopeless love, and the U.S. Constitution.
Karen has mystified audiences from coast to coast, going so
far in the service of her art that, during at least one performance, she held several members of the audience hostage until the rest of the ticket-holders sang along with her rendition of “Second-hand Rose.”
She has played to enthusiastic crowds at festivals such as the
Birkenstock Fair and the Oregon Wheatgrass Festival, as well
as bringing her eccentric song-stylings to prestigious listening
rooms like Mr. B's in Burbank and North Hollywood's Star Garden.
