Kello Aman: A musical journey
Kello Aman was born in Los Angeles, California to a very religious and musical family. Being a product of South Central L.A., he would experience a wealth of music from various backgrounds and cultures. However, like most African-American children, his journey would begin in the church. "I still remember the sounds of the choir of which my mother, grandmother and aunts sang in at Friendly Will Baptist. It was such a powerful choir the sound would resonate thru my entire body. In fact, it was there in that institution that music would become so important to me. However, when I turned 9 we would leave Friendly Will to help establish a new church. The name of the church was Faithful St. Mark. There I would sing in the adult choir as well as the youth choir. We didn't have many members so this allowed me to develop my voice almost by default. Also, I would begin to learn how to play the guitar my mother bought me while on tour, in New York."

"At home we would listen to Shirley Caesar, James Brown, Earth, Wind & Fire, Mighty Clouds of Joy, Sarah Vaughn, Sly, The Temptations, Monk, The Emotions, B.B. King, Al Green and many many more. There was always music."
After years of studying and dreaming about the music industry, Kello would join a national act named "The Gentlemen" and sign a major recording deal with RCA. While with the Gentlemen he would record and do many tours before the band would finally dissolve. After the Gentlemen and RCA, Kello would move to Minneapolis, Minnesota because he felt the music scene in the Twin Cities was fresh and hot. He was right. Soon after he would sign a major recording deal with Columbia Records that would include a production publishing deal. Under that agreement Kello would develop and record new talent as well his act "Centerfold" for the Columbia label.
"The Columbia deal," says Kello, "was most interesting and rewarding because it allowed me to develop as a producer. Before then, I had worked with some of the most talented producers. And, somehow I did not see myself as a member of that very special lot. I mean, there I was this kid from South Central producing records for Columbia/Sony, and I'm calling the shots. Needless to say, it was overwhelming!"
When the deal with Columbia/Sony ended, Kello would go to work for the world famous"Harlem Globetrotters." He and best friend Chance Howard of Prince, The Time and Candy Dulfer would ink a deal with the Harlem Globetrotters that would make them the first independent music producers and song writing team in the history of Globetrotters organization. This was at an important time and period of his career. While it afforded him the honor to work with a storied organization, it also allowed Kello to start a management company and a new production company. Kello would soon after sign an artist to A&M Records and a publishing deal with Sony/ATV. Out of all his accomplishments, getting another artist signed to a major deal says Kello, was the most rewarding.
Kello Aman, a musician, song writer, producer, poet and business man, father and husband is back in the studio. However, this time its all about him. He is working on a genre of music close to his heart. "The Blues."
Why the blues? Asked by many of my friends. "Well, what can I say? The blues is organic, it speaks to the soul and everyday people with everyday problems and everyday circumstances. I have found that the blues only asks of its participants to be real and sincere. It is the most diverse music in the world. This is why I am singing the blues!"
And so the journey continues. Open your mind, open your hearts, open your ears to what Kello Aman calls a smooth and cool flavor of the blues.
