Junie Ranks

June Evans AKA Junie Ranks, the only female dj with Ranks behind her name, was born in Kingston, Jamaica raise up in the parish of St. Catherine Old Harbour. Junie started out 1983 at the tender age of fifteen when she use to sneek out of her mother house to go the her community center youth club "Afreck" to perform at their concerts. She quickly became popular in her home town by chanting on E-T sound system and techniques disco but tell herself she did not want to stop there. She get her first big break when Everton March AKA "Fatta March" sign her up to enter the Taste Talent Contest in 1984. She did not win but had everyone on their feet. Jjunie started out in the Dance Hall on sound system like Lees Unlimeted - Metro Media -Gemini -Stone Love -Supper Rock -Body Guard -Killamonjaro -Black Scorpio and other sound systems. Junie want her voice to be heard all over so she went searching for a producer at the time the 3 top producer was King Jammy's Winston Riley and King Tubbys. She made her first stop at Chancy Lane to see Winston Riley. He asked her to bust a lyrics and she impress him. He took her to the studio the same nite to record her first single "Counteraction" on the stagalog riddim which did well overseas. She got her big break when she did the answer for Admiral Bailey "Gie Mi Punany" with "Gie Mi Di Buddy." She answered Super Cat's "Si Boops Deh" with "Cry fie mi Boops" which went number 5 on the chart. Junie did other songs such as Big and Ready -Dibbie Dibbie Man -Nah Stop Gie Bun - Sweetest Girl a combination with Wayne Wonder - Lick Out Against the Man Them - Sea of Love with John Mouse which went number 1 in Canada 1990 and gave her the Female DJ of the Year in Canada - Entertainer Party - Dream of Me with Jimmy London and the list goes on. Junie record for some of the top producer in the business such as King Jammys -Steelie- Bunny Lee-Pick Out - Patrick Roberts- Donavan Jermain-Jack Scorpio-the late King Tubbys-and many more producers.
