"Julie White blends the best elements of 60’s and 70’s popular music into a modern adult-contemporary sound that features strong melodies, personal yet universally relatable lyrics and a voice that is undeniably unique in its richness and sensuality."--

Hailing from Boston, this critically acclaimed artist has entertained audiences in New England with her strong yet sultry voice & powerful stage presence!

Growing up, Julie was influenced by the music of Burt Bachrach, Karen Carpenter, Carole King, Pat Benetar, Barbara Streisand & the soundtracks to Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, A Chorus Line"I couldn't get enough of this music as a kid and found myself singing all of the time for whomever would listen! I began doing school talent shows and the fever for performing began to escalate."

In college Julie got into her first of many cover bands. Being on the stage with musicians behind her and an audience in front of her became like a drug."I remember my very first 'gig'.I was so nervous all day long up until the point of opening my mouth to sing my first note, but when I began to sing, the nerves disappeared as if by magic, and I knew I would sing forever!" She always identified herself as purely a singer, but after spending years singing other people's stories, she realized she too had something to say, and sharing herself in that way would prove to be exhilerating and cleansing. She enjoyed exposing herself in a way that made her feel open and vulnerable.

Once Julie began to write lyrics, she also began to crave writing in other ways, and since she didn't play an instrument, she had to rely on the musicians in her bands to provide the foundation upon which she would eventually write her melodies. "I never felt that I needed to play guitar or piano, though I did dabble in some lessons as a kid, but my attention span was that of a flea and I found the practicing was much too chore-like. I own a guitar but I still am that little girl avoiding her practicing! Bottom line, I am a singer and wanted to fine-tune that craft rather than learn a new one. I knew deep down that I wanted to and could write a melody even though I had never attempted to do so." In her first original project, the songs were written and she was replacing the lead vocalist. Yet she wasn't thrilled with the melody or the lyrics, so she asked if she could have the songs sans vocals and they agreed. Two weeks later she came back with 6 new songs that she had written. And the rest they say is history.

Brian Burrill, singer/songwriter/guitar player is her partner in crime on this part of her musical journey--"I had downsized from a 5-piece project which incorporated full drum kit and electric guitar, and as a result of needing to head off in another musical direction, I set off on a more acoustic road. This fork was not an easy decision. The musicians in 'Julie White' were instrumental (pun intended) in getting me this far. In the biz of music and bands, as we all know, things can evolve in such a way where change must happen in order for creativity to thrive." Recently Julie has welcomed Linda Malouf, an extremely talented percussionist who has toured Europe and played with many national acts, and Brian Eggleston (My Guilty Pleasure & Kobie), a full-time keyboard player and teacher. These 2 players have added so much to the project, keeping it organically acoustic and in support of Julie's vocals.

With honest and heartfelt lyrics which are sung to beautiful melodies and soaring harmonies, her thoughtful and positive songs reflect real life observations & relationships, all with a spirit that defines her life and her music! Her sound blends elements of modern pop, rock & classic styles, all which bring to Julie's songs a sound that's truly unique!

Julie received a 2006 Boston Music Award nomination for "Outstanding Local Female Vocalist" and has played live in the Radio 92.9 (the old WBOS) studio and continues to get radio oppportunities. She will be performing in the WERS (Emerson College Radio) studio on 12/3 at 1:00.

"Ms. White’s lyrics strike me as somewhat anodyne and prosaic. But her vocal melodies are gentle and filled with a certain lilting calm, and the often quasi-jazzy instrumental accompaniment is sophisticated and always well-suited as a backdrop to her lovely though but by no means particularly powerful or intriguingly variegated vocal presence. Nevertheless, the many excellences found here raise this effort above the run-of-the-mill. Her affecting lilting vocal turns on “Meet Me in the Middle,” “One Way Mind,” and, in particular, “Empty Hand,” are especially appealing." (Francis DiMenno-The Noise)
