Hip Hop music is an oversaturated market, where everyone's an aspiring
artist, and genuine talent is extremely rare. Standing out among the
crowd takes intangible qualities, extraordinary ability, and a unique
sound. With this in mind, hearing artist Judah the LyricalRev should
be
considered an unusual pleasure. The 25-yr-old phenom and Rockford, IL
native is equal parts emcee and producer. He describes himself as "a
pitcher that can hit homeruns", meaning he is just as fierce behind the
boards as he is on the mic! It only takes one earnest listen to
quickly see that Judah is not your typical run-of-the-mill artist. His
cunning lyrics and neck-snapping production are done with an authority
that
certifies him as the real deal!
Judah found his musical beginnings as a child, listening to records in
the basement with his father. He instantly fell in love with the Soul,
Jazz, and Funk sound of his fathers collection, and after being
introduced to hip hop, he felt an instinctual kinship to the music. He
and
his two siblings started writing raps with the assistance of older
cousins. He soon formed a group with his older sister
(emcee/songstress
VaNatta) and started doing shows locally at the age of 13.
Judah's swagger is one of a veteran, who's earned his stripes in the
field of performance and musical production. His music is infused with
soul, sprinkled with witty insights, and laced with blue-collar themes.
"I represent the common man.its a Midwest thing", says Judah. "What
I rap about is more representative of that average cats life. I write
about things everyday people can relate to". His topics are an
assorted mix, ranging from lyrical assaults, married life, political
critiques, to his faith in God. He seamlessly fuses the elements of
intensity,
honesty, and playfulness together in a way that few artist can. It's
these qualities that make his sound so outstanding.
He credits his major influences to artists like Nas, Marvin Gaye, Black
Thought, Bob James, DJ Premier, Gamble and Huff, and Dr. Dre. Judah is
a throwback to an era of well-rounded skillful lyricism, with beats
liable to cause head injury--all the while rejecting the title of hip
hop
head. Judah does not desire to be categorized as anything. He makes
this clear on the title track of his forthcoming album "It Is What It
Is", where he raps, "As far as my music, dont label it a thing/ cause
Im
past that/ this aint no gangsta, gospel, / or no backpack". He feels
that good music should speak for itself and be for everyone to enjoy.
Judah continues to produce tracks for his sister and a host of other
Rap and R&B artists. His sound and unorthodox approach to music are
sure
to position him as a shining star among Hip Hop's constellations.
Prepare to witness greatness!
