“If I had to have a pillow fight with any pop group in the world tonight it would be them”

Duglas T Stewart (BMX BANDITS)

Since they formed in late 2005, Jonny and the Debutantes have firmly established themselves as an exciting and unique package of no-holds-barred rock-guitar-bubblegum-pop. The palpable buzz around the group is continuing to build, and with the launch of their first album coming in early 2007, this band are definitely one to watch out for. Comprising four multi-talented and badly behaved girls, known collectively as the Debutantes, Jonny certainly has his hands full. Together they create an exhilarating and hedonistic mixture, which guarantees a wild atmosphere at their gigs.

The band has its roots in Glasgow, beginning as a twinkle in Jonny’s eye and evolving from one man, a Theremin and a female congo player, to a fully formed 4 girl band with a male lead. What makes Jonny and the Debutantes stand out from other bands is their unwillingness to fall into any particular category. They show a rare versatility, a mix of styles and yet an unquestionably assured sound filled with bright, catchy hooks and with clear influences from 1960s pop. Mixing up male and female elements from bands like the Shangri-Las, the B52s and the Velvet Underground, Jonny and the Debutantes have formed a unique and captivating pop phenomenon which will have you tingling all over.
