Jon English was truly almost famous once. Starting at age 12, he was a fixture in nightclubs throughout Texas, finally fielding his greatest successes as the front man for Austin indie favorites, Plow Monday, in the late 90s/ early 2000s. In 2003, Plow Monday called it quits and Jon occupied his time playing stripped down solo shows and releasing the odd album of glorified demo tracks recorded in his home studio.
In 2005 he partnered with Bucky Godbolt and Erin Hogan with KVET-AM to produce a collection of Longhorn-themed parody songs. The collaboration continued in 2006 and 2007, and birthed the now legendary tailgating anthem, "Hooked on the Horns," the only fully original song Jon wrote during the project. It was downloaded from his site more than 30,000 times over the next three years.
Jon and his wife started a family in 2008, which brought his recording and gigging days to an abrupt end. He still plays out every once in a blue moon, usually on request, usually for insane amounts of money and large, pre-paid bar tabs.
