For Paul Johnson - singer, guitarist, songwriter, and driving force behind the band that bears his name - 2011 promises to shine even brighter than the previous year. The formula hasn't changed - with another new record on the way and another show schedule that grows increasingly engaged - and neither has the sort of relentless dedication that makes Johnson's Crossroad one of the hardest working bands in the Americana music industry. Formed some six years ago in the mountains of West Virginia and tested by over half a decade spent on the road, the passion that Johnson shares with co-founding member Keith Minguez for their own acoustic crossroad - a meeting place of honest, soulful music that draws deeply from bluegrass, roots country and Appalachian old time - has brought Johnson's Crossroad to the forefront of the North Carolina music scene, where they now call home. Minguez and Johnson added bassist Chris Weller to the fold in 2010, and - often joined by longtime friend and accomplice Corey Lee McQuade - played over 100 shows, endearing the band to fans up and down the East Coast and establishing Johnson's Crossroad as a fixture on the regional festival circuit. With repeat appearances scheduled at such reputable festivals as Merlefest and the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion, a bravely progressive new record, and a calendar chock full of exciting dates and notable collaborations, 2011 is sure to be one of accolade and opportunity for these aggressive peddlers of a sound they like to call "Appalachian Soul."
