After a few years of growth & experimenting, Johnnyrook became one of the more prominent bands in the Minneapolis rock scene, playing nearly every venue in town. But, with the release of "Between Love & Loss", produced by Mike Dresch (The Spill Canvas, Nodes Of Ranvier), the band chose to focus on areas beyond their hometown. Weekend warrior trips throughout the midwest gave the band a taste of what they truly wanted, and summer of 2007 saw Johnnyrook hit the road for a steady couple months on a completely self-booked tour. By the end of the year, the band played nearly 100 shows throughout the midwest and central United States. At the end of their summer tour, the band entered the studio with Chris Grainger (Switchfoot, Wilco, Dropping Daylight), a producer they chose to help mature the already distinct Johnnyrook sound. Fronted by soulful vocals reminiscent of a modern-day Joe Cocker, combined with technical guitar work spanning today's heaviest as well as most melodic genres, Johnnyrook have truly come into their own. 2008 saw Johnnyrook continue to tour regionally, showcasing at Red Gorilla Music Festival in Austin, TX. The "Nameless Ghost" EP was released as a free digital download as a thank you to their fans, but ultimately the band hung it up in August of 2008. After taking time to regroup and write on their own, Johnnyrook started working on new material, and played their first show in nearly 8 months. The "Nameless Ghost" EP has now been physically released and is available at shows and online. A new full length album is currently being recorded and will be released in early 2011. The future is unwritten, but will be documented as it unfolds.
"I'm amazed. I'm staggered. I'm gasping for breath. Why? Because I just finished listening to the dark and mystic creation known as "Between Love & Loss" by Johnnyrook. Darkly melodic with passionate lyrics that are both honest and introspective, the album soars with majestic guitars and stupidly good songwriting. Modern rock with a heavy side that cuts the umbilical cord free from pop and rock with a rusty cleaver. Why aren't these guys, I don't know, EVERYWHERE?" (Editor's Pick) - Smother.net
"It's difficult to place a band like Johnnyrook in today's music scene. This Minneapolis band adopts a linear rock approach to its craft and lightly highlights it with moments of pure aggression. This alternative edge cuts deeply and grabs the listener's attention with a momentous force that is impossible to ignore." - Decoymusic.com
