John joined Anuna in '91 and became the first male lead singer in Riverdance by accident. He toured with the show for the best part of 2 years and left to record his first album "Songs for a fallen angel".
This basically charted a love affair over a number of years - to be blunt he didn't come out of it too well.
In 2010 he's working on the material for a long and eagerly awaited 2nd album. No working title as yet. You can check in here regularly for progress and gig news
His vocal arrangement of "Fionnghuala" appeared on the "The Chieftains: Live from Dublin: A Tribute to Derek Bell"
The first track of SFAFA "If all she has is you" was covered on Owen Brady's debut album "Prepare to be happy", released in 2008 by Sony BMG
"Swimming in the Barrow" was covered by Lynn Hilary on her album "Take me with you"
A version of his previously unreleased song "The Cherry Tree" was covered on Fiona Wight's debut album "The last Rose"
In 2009 Songs for a Fallen Angel was nominated for the best contemporary album in the JPF Awards which are the world's largest independent music awards
REVIEWS
"Genteel harmonies and quiescent aural
landscapes/reminiscent of Art Garfunkel during his
"Bright Eyes" days/the absolute beauty of a handful of
the dozen self-penned songs/Nick Drake would surely
smile at the irony of a revival of such delicacy in
the maw of the tiger/but McGlynn's strongest hand is
the sophistication in his writing particularly on "In Your Eyes", with its Cole Porter romance"
Hot Press Magazine
"The instrumentation in particular is outstanding and
McGlynn possesses a voice that does justice to lyrics
that are clearly personal"
In Dublin Magazine
"He sings with a clear and very beautiful voice, not
far from Art Garfunkel."
