J-Funk – Biography
J-FUNK is primarily a live band known for its infectious energy and constant invitation to the groove. Syncopated rhythms, hip-hop and soul singing and surging horns quickly take you to a world where the watchword is clear: "SHAKE IT!".

The story of J-Funk began in 2001 in Lille (North of France). Laurent Lefebvre, Jerome Galletti and Florent Capelle, three passionate for funk music, decided to form a band to stand up for that genre. In 2002, the arrival of Geoffrey Felix on trombone and Julien Crombez on saxophone further enrich the first creations of the combo.

JAM! Around jam sessions and first gigs, everyone's influences (electro, jazz, Latin, rock, hiphop .) lead to some first instrumental compositions. Soul and hip hop singing definitely reinforce J-Funk's identity. A first self-produced EP is then naturally born from this emerging dynamic.
On stage, the JF's are quickly considered as natural born groovers and win a lot of music contests. They keep doing lots of gigs then. During this period, the group collaborates with Henry Bécart Jr. (trumpet) and Guillaume Marsalet (keyboards). Their first public performances take place in the north of France, and then they quickly get opportunities to play abroad (Belgium, England, Macedonia .), always taking their audience deep into the J-Corporation.
In 2007, J-Funk is spotted by the biggest music contest of Lille and gets the chance to record some new tracks. Now if the band may ask you this: "What the f**k is the funk for you?", well, this is surely not pointless! This is simply because it is the name of their first 5-song EP released in early 2008, but mostly because they themselves have a clear sense of the thing!

On stage, the group shows his talent and his incredible ability to make people dance. However, the idea of recording
an album is on each musician's mind for a long time. In 2009, they meet Vincent Cunat aka DJ Bicen (Waz Recordz, Da.Taz, Dubians .) who help them to record and produce their first single "Funny Guys / What The Fuck Is The funk for You? on vinyl released in May 2010. This production is a proud introduction to the next coming LP: a pure essence of groove clearly influenced by the masters of the genre (James Brown, Maceo Parker, New Master Sounds, Captain Mercier .).
12 tracks are selected for the first LP album named "Funky Take Away", again realized by Bicen. It was recorded at La Chapelle-studio (Belgium) in a live fashion and mixed at Studi'oh (France) using lots of analog gears among others. J Funk invited several friends to play on this album. Among them you will hear some of the most active musicians of Lille such as DJ Boulaone (BenbellaJazz, DJ Bigband) on turntables, Brother Jam (Waz Recordz) on congas and of course the woman who now appears more and more on stage with the band, Miss Clem Powels (Eclectek, Afrozen Orchestra, Smogizer) bringing the project to a new level with her warm and soulful voice.

J-FUNK est avant tout un groupe de scène reconnu pour son énergie communicative et sa constante invitation au groove. Le chant soul/hip hop, la rythmique syncopée et la déferlante des cuivres vous emmènent rapidement dans un univers où le seul mot d'ordre est évident : 'SHAKE IT !'
Des garçons dans le groove…
L'histoire de J-Funk débute en 2001 en région lilloise. Laurent Lefebvre, Jérôme Galletti et Florent Capelle, trois passionnés de « funk music », décident de monter un groupe pour défendre leur définition du style. L'arrivée d'une section cuivre bien rôdée en 2002 en la personne de Geoffrey Félix au trombone, et Julien Crombez au saxophone vient booster davantage les premières créations du combo.
J Funk, avec un J comme … ?
JAM ! Autour des sessions d'improvisation et des premiers concerts, les influences (électro, jazz, latino, rock, hiphop…) de chacun aboutissent à des compositions d'abord instrumentales. Le chant soul-hip hop vient définitivement entériner l'identité de J-Funk. De ces premières réunions nait naturellement une première démo autoproduite.
Sur scène, les JF's se forgent une solide réputation de « grooveurs nés », remportant la majorité des tremplins auxquels ils participent. Les dates s'enchainent alors. Durant cette période, le groupe collabore notamment avec Henri Bécart Jr (trompette) et Guillaume Marsalet (clavier). Ecumant tout d'abord les scènes du grand nord, puis rapidement de France et d'ailleurs (Belgique, Angleterre, Macédoine…), les musiciens embarquent tout le monde pour une immersion totale dans la J-corporation.
Repéré par le dispositif « Tour de chauffe » en 2007, J-Funk enregistre de nouveaux titres. Et si les musiciens du groupe vous posent la question « What the f**k is the funk for you ?», ce n'est sûrement pas un hasard. C'est tout simplement parce que c'est le nom de leur premier CD 5 titres sorti début 2008, mais c'est surtout parce qu'eux-mêmes ont clairement leur conception de la chose!

Même si c'est évidemment sur scène, au contact du public, que le groupe montre son talent et son incroyable facilité à faire danser les foules, l'idée d'enregistrer un album traine dans les têtes de chacun des membres depuis longtemps. La rencontre avec Vincent Cunat aka Bicen (Waz Recordz, Da.Taz, Dubians…) accélère clairement le mouvement et fin 2009, les prises débutent et le premier single «Funny Guys / What the Fuck is the funk for You?» (disponible uniquement en vinyle) voit le jour en mai 2010, annonçant fièrement le ton du disque à venir: un pur concentré de groove clairement marqué par les maîtres du genre (James Brown, Maceo Parker, New Master Sounds, Captain Mercier…) !
12 titres sont retenus pour figurer sur ce premier opus nommé « Funky Take Away » dont la réalisation et de nouveau confié à Bicen. Enregistré à La Chapelle-studio (Bl) dans un esprit « Live » et mixé au Studi'oh à Roubaix à grand renfort d'analogique le groupe convie plusieurs amis à les rejoindre sur ce premier album. Parmi eux DJ Boulaone (BenbellaJazz, dj Bigband) aux platines, Brother Jam (Waz Recordz) aux congas et bien sur celle qui vient les retrouver depuis un moment sur scène Miss Clem Powels (Eclectek, Afrozen Orchestra, Smogizer) qui, avec sa voix chaude et teintée de Soul à faire pâlir un des frères « Blues » enflamme régulièrement les scènes et emmène de ce fait le groupe vers de nouveaux horizons !!!
