JERMAINE COWAN

God has given Jamaican-born artist Jermaine Cowan a gift and the strength to share it with an audience.
During a time when a lot of music is for entertainment purposes only, Jermaine strives to inspire and
motivate through his intelligent and spiritual lyrics, and his body-moving reggae and dancehall vibes.
His songs, which are a dynamic fusion of hip hop, pop and soul with urban reggae, have revolutionized
the face of gospel music not only in Canada but in the United States and the Caribbean as well and his
contribution has not gone unnoticed. The 2008 release of Jermaine's debut album "Timing" with it's
powerful singles "1 God," "Jesus, your worthy," and "Feel Alright" immediately garnered him
international recognition and praise. The accolades came next including award nominations for Album
of the Year and Artist of the Year at the Canadian Achievement Awards, Song of the year at the Urban
Music Association of Canada (UMAC) awards and for Song, Album, Artist and Single of the Year at
the Canadian Reggae Music Awards. Internationally, Jermaine has been nominated for two Ensound
awards (New York), one Mega Jam Award (Jamaica) and two Marlin Awards (Bahamas).
The release of "Timing" has also seen Jermaine climb to the tops of North American reggae charts and
landed him in the #1 and #2 spots on satellite and internet radio for 15 weeks. Since the release of the
album, he has performed on over 200 stages and appeared on television programs across Canada, the
United States and the Caribbean while sharing company with such artists as Papa San, Carlene Davis,
Frankie Paul, Half Pint, Luciano, Stitchie and GRAMMY/DOVE AWARD winner Isreal Houghton.
Through all this, Jermaine has succeeded in solidifying himself as one of Canada's top gospel artists,
but there is much more to the man than just his music. Even with his second album in the works,
Jermaine has found time to give back to the Jamaican community while supporting a cause close to his
heart. Joining with his Aunt, Georgia Wynter, otherwise known as Lady Diana, he serves as one of the
sitting directors of 'Diana's Outreach Foundation', the not-for-profit organization founded by Wynter
and striving to improve the welfare of parish communities. This collaboration has resulted in successful
projects-turned-television programs, 'Vintage Village' and 'Make Over Mothers'. With 'Make Over
Mothers' the foundation chooses one mother from a parish and provides her with a fresh new look
hoping to promote self-confidence and award them for their selflessness in giving to their family,
church and community. Jermaine also regularly sends home packages of clothes and goods to support
and give back to the Jamaican community.
Aside from his charitable ventures, Jermaine has founded Rite Away Muzik, a production company
providing event planning, photography and design services. The company also houses an upcoming
music label, through which Jermaine hopes to distribute, manage and market new artists.

JERMAINE COWAN

Continued.
As for his own beginnings, Jermaine was musically-inclined from a young age. He credits his success
and motivation, in part, to his father who encouraged him to attack his dreams and cultivate his musical
talents for singing and songwriting. His music pulses with the influence of such distinguished veterans
as Michael Jackson, Kirk Franklin, and Luther Vandross and his sound is an extension of many of the
common elements made famous by such reggae legends as Sanchez, Dennis Brown, and Bob Marley.
Jermaine unites his vibrant beats with inspiring and reflective lyrics that detail his personal experiences
and shed light on a reality that many listeners can relate to. His message is one of love for God, for
others, and for oneself and for a belief in faith that foster success even in the face of great adversity. By
making music Jermaine is doing what he loves; singing, writing and administering the word of God.
Even if he could not perform it, he states that he would still be making music because of its power to
uplift and make you feel again. Although his music is about finding strength through the Lord,
Jermaine is not preaching to his listeners. Instead, he strives to make an impact in others lives and meet
listeners wherever they are in their life to help take them to the next level. To Jermaine his fans are not
just supporters but part of his family and making music is his way of building a relationship with them.
In short, this is not your grandfather's gospel music. Jermaine Cowan is an urban reincarnation, striving
to reach today's youth while bringing the blissful sound that every reggae soul craves in his trademark
"rite away" fashion.
