JENNIE LOFGREN - ABOUT ME!

I was born in Östersund, in the northern part of Sweden and I grew up in a little snowy suburb called Odensala. It didn’t snow all year but when I think about it,

I see myself standing on the corner of my block dressed in a thick boiler-suit and

moon boots. Looking up at the winter sky, silent snow flakes would land on my nose. It seemed like the rest of the world was a fuzzy dream somewhere in another galaxy or lifetime.

Growing up, I spent a lot of the time in front of my fathers piano. This was before internet and cable tv, so I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a dull Sunday afternoon than creating little pieces of music. We had a music room in our house. There we had a piano, an organ, an accordion, a broken guitar and some flutes - but my big love was the piano.

At age twelve I started my first rock group with some girls in the neighborhood. I wanted to play the drums but ended up in front of the microphone. Music had become a big part of my life. I remember walking through the forest listening to a tape that I had borrowed from a friend. It was the first time I used a portable cassette player and a song called “Over & Over” started playing. I hadn’t heard anything like it before. It was so full of energy! All of a sudden I knew that I wanted to be a part of whatever that was. I wanted to be in that world. I didn’t know it then, but the female singer was Madonna.

After finishing school I moved to Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. My goal was to get a record contract and get away from my hometown for a while. After a few years of hard work I signed my first record deal with a big label and one of my first dreams came true. This was an exciting but confusing time in my life. After years of trying to get my music released, I finally got into the studio. The record company gave me and my co-producer Anders Herrlin a small budget and 1999 the first single from the forthcoming album was released. It was called “You Make Me feel”.

The same year I did a live performance in Stockholm that caught the attention of international record company executives. All off a sudden I was contacted by famous american songwriters and was invited to work with them. The album I had been working on was finished but I felt that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I had to explore what would happen if I collaborated with them.

I spent the following years working on “Meant To Be”- my first album. I got to travel a lot and it was so much fun! I had made it in to the world I dreamed of as a child but reality turned out to be more complicated than the dream.

The negative thing about the hole experience was that there were too many people involved in my project. Everyone had an opinion and at the end of the day it was hard to hold on to my own sound. I ended up leaving the big record company and starting all over again.

The first thing I did, after leaving the record company, was to buy a small recording studio and rent a room to have it in. There I started to write songs for my new album. It felt really nice to be left alone with my piano again. Having the possibility to record everything myself without depending on a budget was a new experience. After recording simple arrangements with vocals, piano and strings , I collaborated with Anders Herrlin and Christoffer Lundqvist on the production of the album. Some parts was made in Stockholm and some in Vallarum outside of Malmö. In january 2005 the album “Jennie Lofgren” was finished.

Music has always been a big part of my life. Nothing can pick me up, take me down or move me like music! During a certain period in my life I might listen a lot to an album and years later when I listen to it, it brings back all sorts of emotions. Like it’s a soundtrack to my life. Hopefully some of you visiting my page, reading these words, will have memories to my new songs. There’s nothing bigger than knowing that my music can be a part of somebody’s life. Knowing that someone out there gets happy, inspired or emotional when listening to it.

My second album is called “Jennie Lofgren”, because it feels like it’s my first album sounding like me. Hope you like it!

Lots of love

JENNIE
