Jen Durkin

Jen Durkin- Lead Vocalist for Mickey Hart Band, Rhythm Devils, Bernie Worrell, The Bomb Squad and Deep Banana Blackout has a 15-year career entertaining Festival audiences around the country.
Jen brought together the group of like- minded musicians called Deep Banana Blackout. This high energy Funk rock band hit it off with the emerging jam band scene of the 90’s and toured Nationally opening for Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, P-Funk, Gov’t Mule, John Scofield and James Brown. They co wrote and produced 2 CDs before she left in 2000 to join Bernie Worrell and the Woo Warriors.
Jen Durkin and the Bomb Squad produced 2 CDs and also won an American Music Award for best unsigned band in 2003.
In life’s constant renewal comes the Equinox. This new group formed around the music of co-writers Durkin and Detroy. The songs on the new CD have melodies and harmonies floating thru jazz, soul and Latin rhythms.
The Valley of the Sun has been Jen’s home for almost two years where she has been a featured vocalist with the Phoenix based “Hot Birds and the Chili Sauce Band”. This 10-piece band is old school Stax R&B Funk at it’s finest with a rotating cast of the best musicians in town. A Maximum Funk Overdrive Project featuring members of “Deep Banana Blackout”, “Manchado” and “Darian Cunning Band. This group plays the best of James Brown, Funkadelic, Isley Bros.,
The Funky Meters, Cold Blood and Chuck Brown to name a few.
It’s a rawkus party with some Latin flavor to move and groove. Durkin’s Big Band is picking up the DBB
mantle to put the boot down all over the Northeast this summer with surprises in store!



Equinox CD release



Check out the latest from Jen Durkin a new sound with some old friends. Deep Banana Blackout’s Saxophonist Rob Somerville and percussionist Johnny Durkin join Hans Broeking and Rich Zurkowski the rhythm section from Electric Hill under the musical direction of Matt Detroy for a new project, Jen Durkin’s Equinox.
In 2007 Durkin and Detroy wrote this collection of songs and debuted the project before a live audience on the vernal equinox March 21st. The next two years were spent refining and recording in the studio. With the help of guitarist/engineer Andy Abel and artist Darren Greene the Equinox CD is ready for independent release.
To celebrate we have our CD release party planned for Sunday March 22nd at the Paradise Theatre Boston MA opening for Deep Banana Blackout! This promises to be a great night of music and family funk. Since Jen’s recent move to Arizona this will be a one of a kind show as Equinox will be playing more frequently in the South West.
