I was born to be wild. My life began during one of the biggest storms in Santa Barbara CA, (January, 1958). The "new thought" spiritual belief is that you create your own world from the time you are born. Really? From the moment of my birth, I have chosen a very dynamic, powerful, sometimes tragic and electrifying existence. Why is it that we're born into a life that seems to have so much turmoil at such a young age? Could it really be my choice? And yet I do defend, "I'd rather be busy than bored" as my motto. At times, I just wanted to give up and end it all. then BAM something happened, I'd fall in love, I'd have an epiphany or I'd just trade my old horse in for a new one. It's a cycle that kept returning in my life. If only I'd have the excitement without all the misery! I felt so powerless!
I felt powerless to the tragic events that seemed to surrounded my life prior to my knowledge of; quantum laws and transformation! My early life, in the country, set in the hills behind Santa Barbara, was pleasant enough but as I grew into my teens life's tragic events became overpowering. I started writing lyrics and melodies to release the emotions I was feeling. I copied lyrics that, plagiarized those emotions, into notebooks from some of my favorite songwriters. I used Music as my golden ticket to a sweet factory of escape. Music was a vacation from a self sabotaging and suffering ego. When I wrote a song, I could be anybody I wanted to be, feel anything I wanted to feel and lie about any situation I was currently in to make it sound better. Songwriting helped me keep my sanity but by letting me fantasize a better self.
I have been writing songs for over 25 years. At 35, I returned to school and got an Associate of Art degree in music at Santa Barbara City College and a Bachelor of Art degree in music at University California Santa Barbara. After receiving my degree from the University in 2001, I plunged back into songwriting and recording. In 2004, I released my CD, Faded Fiction. These were songs that I recorded in 1998, while attending school. Then in 2007, I released a second CD, The Ballad Of Calamity . In 2011, I self -published my first book, Change The World; Write Your Song! Book I - Fundamentals and beyond for the Aspiring Singer/Songwriter. I have been busy working on book II, writing songs, hosting workshops, making videos and writing blogs.
From powerless to power-girl, I became a transformational songwriting coach, speaker, workshop host and author of the book, Change the World - Write Your Song! My passion for songwriting began in 1982 after a transformational experience seeing The Who in concert. Songwriting became more than trying to fit my unique songs into the mainstream music scene but to share my transformational songwriting techniques to other songwriters. Empowering them, their audiences and ultimately the world.
