I change these songs as much as possible, throwing in a few home recordings and demos along with stuff from the 2003 cd "Plank."

My name is Plank. Jeff Plankenhorn for those who don't know me very well. Plank is easier to remember and sign with a sharpie on someone's gig poster, cd, and especially t-shirt. I like the many meanings of my childhood nickname, besides the obvious name-shortening one. Plank seems to mean idiot many places overseas. "As thick as two short planks" they say in the UK. I can be thick-headed for sure. Perfect. It also has some positive connotations. I'm not much of a fighter, but I can definitely take a hit. And then there's Ed, Ed and Eddy or whatever it's called. That's cool. Then there's you got Planked. Insert your favorite innuendo here.

Mainly these days I play guitar for Bob Schneider in his band and in his Texas Bluegrass Massacre. Sometimes I play other things (steels, mandos, dobros, etc). Fun. It's a great gig I pretty much stumbled into. We play often. Hope to do lots more recording and gigging with him. Indefinitely.

I also write and play my own songs, arrangements, etc. Sometimes out for my own gigs. I write and practice to chase away demons, meditate, exercise, and most of all - for passion. No choice, just write.

I do love when people get something from it, and that they can often relate, or see themselves in characters or situations. I like it when they move to the beat, air guitar and drum, or even whistle one of "my" melodies as I'm taking down my gear at the end of the night.

I made a cd of some of my "Americana" tunes, mostly originals, in 2003 with Gurf Morlix at the helm and some strong players. I'm very proud of it, check it out. Just search my name and Plank. I think it's on itunes and cdbaby.

Now I'm writing completely different stuff. Gotta move on as an artist I suppose. It just happens. Better that way I think.

The only down side to the Bob gig is that I don't get to play with as many artists as I used to. From 2000-2005 I played gigs (and really miss playing gigs with) Ray Wylie Hubbard, Willis Alan Ramsey, Susan Gibson, Slaid Cleaves, Eliza Gilkyson, Gurf Morlix, Ruthie Foster and more. These people all have such a wealth of knowledge, experience, and soul. I am trying to organize better and play gigs whenever I can with all of these folks. Maybe I'll write some blogs of my experiences with them. These are the people who helped me. Musically, and in many other ways. These are also the people who helped me survive essentially. I can only hope to help some other cats along the way and do as Ray Wylie told me, "be gracious and grateful."

Without music, barring my already being dead or incarcerated, I would probably be an actor, politician, or gambler. Maybe a unitarian universalist minister. My music, well that's what I like to call a multi-cultural booty fest. Anything I can get my ears around and into is fair game to me. Hope you like it. Gigety-gigety.

So I'm back on myspace, lookout Demitri.
