I’ve been playing in bands and making records in Phoenix, AZ since 1994. Since 2005 I’ve been doing the singer/songwriter thing. I think it’s pretentious when singer/songwriters use a band name, when in fact, they are the only permanent fixture of said band…call me old fashioned. My first band was an alternative band formed during my freshman year of high school. I sang and played guitar. It didn’t last long. The next year a friend and I formed a punk band. I played guitar. This lasted 9 years, and brought a lifetime of stories. I got discouraged when our “big” new record kept getting pushed back from release. I quit the band, broke up with my girlfriend, and locked myself in my bedroom for 6 months. I recruited Bob Hoag to help me record the songs I had written over this period. I couldn’t sing or play anything on the guitar except a power chord, so he had his work cut out for him. I toured, wrote more records, did all the stupid things you’re supposed to do in your 20’s. This all caught up with me. I took about a year break. Moved from Tempe to Phoenix, and slowly started writing again. By the way, my name is pronounced like crooks, books, looks.Stooks. These are the records I’ve recorded. All of them are available on itunes. Just type in my name and there they are…if you want a hard copy just let me know. I’m not here often so try Facebook (www.facebook.com/jdstooks), Twitter (www.twitter.com/jdstooks), or good old fashioned email. jdstooks@hotmail.com
