Bio of Jay Gulley:

Born on Detroit's East Side on January 2nd 1988, James Illidge aka Jay Gulley has had some life. The young rapper and songwriter hasn't had much glory and joyful moments growing up on the east. "Growing up on the east, wasn't nothing special at all. Most kids grew up playing videos games and sports, I grew up struggling and hustling for greatness." As a child Jay quickly witnessed the options on the street, being influenced by Drug Dealers and Gang violence. In and Out of jail since the age of 14, being locked up was not an option for Jay at all. So music was a way for Jay expressing himself, only discovering his talent at 10 he never took it seriously untill he reached middle school. He would battle other kids twice his age just to earn his respect. "I was the youngest on my block, the other kids were like 5 or 6 years older than me, we were all in a gang. I used to see'em sell dope, and toat burners and I even helped stash guns and drugs in my own house. All that never bothered me untill a couple of my friends got killed, then that's when it struck a cord."

When he reached High school, Jay really took his talent to another level, as a freshman he would battle seniors for money. Another cat by the name of Fred another freshman who only stayed just a few houses down on Jay's block knew how to work with computers. "He was a real smart whiz kid, always coming up with something new and improving on his skill. It was later on in the year untill he approached me with some beats and thats when it all happen." After that Jay teamed up with Fred and closes friends on the east side who too could rap, which include Cris, Hope, Streetz. "We formed a click and every weekend we would hit the studio which was at fred's house lay down tracks that was produced by Fred himself, so in the 9th we were doing the damn thing." But it wasn't going to be easy, it was a lot of struggling. From being rejected from radio play to being booed off stage. they been through it all. But now at the age of 20, swagger up, Jay's back in the booth and has major plans for his future. "Alotta niggas came and went, so nowadays i'm cautions on who I fuck with.my nigga Streetz but now known as Young D, we had a long talk or whatever. We bout to take it back to how it was, so if niggas ain't feeling the movementthen keep it moving!! Its The Comission!!"
