Javier Alcántara



Musician, guitarist, composer, improviser, teacher, music therapist,

art director and organizer of the International Jazz Festival of Badajoz and the Badejazz International Seminary.



Studied Jazz and Improvisation in Italy, Portugal, Spain and New York.



Continued to study classical guitar, solfege and harmony in the Conservatory of Badajoz.



Graduated in guitar and modern harmony in the Music and Technology Institute of Madrid (I.M.T.), studying with Chema Vichez, José Manuel Lorenzo and Juan Méndez, and receiving private lessons from the

renowned guitarist John Stowel.



Studied Jazz Guitar, Modern Harmony and Arrangements in the Conservatory of Liceo of Barcelona, where attended a Master Class with Rick Peckam.



Studied in New York with Jonathan Kreisberg and received lessons from Peter Bernstein, Lionel Loueke, Mike Moreno, Lange Lund, and Aaron Goldberg. Attended classes and workshops with Ravi Coltrane, Steve Coleman, and Don Byron at the School for Improvisational Music in New York. Attended to the New York University and had classes with Bruce

Arnold, Mimi Fox, Tony Moreno, and Ralp Alesi.



Recieved private lessons from Guillermo Klein, Nuno Ferreira, Dani Pérez, Joaquín Chacón and Aníbal Martinez.



Attended two consecutive years to the Seminar on Improvement of Jazz

and Improvisation "SIENA JAZZ", in Italy.



Recorded and co-produced my first album with the Special Quartet jazz formation. The album, named "Namouche", has been recorded with renowned musicians such as Perico Sambeat, Alexis Cuadrado and Hugo

Alves, where all the themes are original. The album was nominated in the categories of "Best Group/Artist" and "Best Album" in the II Music

of Extremadura Awards "Sonoraque" on the 23th of May 2009 in the Grand Theatre of Cáceres.



Played with different formations and styles of dance and music, in european jazz clubs and festivals.



Played, recorded and collaborated with musicians such as Arturo Serra, Ari Hoenig, Phil Abraham, Hugo Alves, Hugo Antunes, Alexis Cuadrado, Peter Cortejosa, Perico Sambeat, Bruno Pedroso, Nelson Cascais, and Demian Cabaud in different projects.

Offered several Master Classes, Lectures and Conferences at the University of Extremadura and jazz festivals on Improvisation,Creativity and History of Jazz.



In dance and theater worked with the company Muratica, composing and performing the music for the play "Quijote Gata Kalashnikov", besides

playing a small role. The work gets three nominations in the Jara awards, granted to professional theater in Extremadura, including Best Musical Composition.



With the dance theater company NADAQUEVER in the Laboratory "La reforma de las costumbres" I: OLIMPIA, composing and performing the music.



Worked with the company ASIMETRIKO TEATRO on the montage called "LLOVIZNARTE".



With ASSOCIATION DANCE EXPERIENCE in two editions of Danzalacalle and in the Contact Improvisation Jams organized by the same association,composing, performing and improvising original music.



Been called to perform in the Jams and Performances of "Freiburg Contact Festival" in Germany.



Founding member of Badejazz Musicians Association, with which organized, directed and produced the International Jazz Festival of Badajoz and the Badejazz International Seminary the last nine years.



Organized the first and second editions of the Iberian Jazz festival JAZZIBERIA, having been held in the Contemporary Leisure Centre of Badajoz.



Founding member of the jazz program in Extremadura Radio Channel "Ahora Jazz".



Organized the Badejazz Club for "Sala Aftasi" in Badajoz.



Attended the International Contact Improvisation Festival in Freiburg, Germany, with Ka Rusler, Africa Navarro, Atuarco Arfini, Jeff Bliss,y Barbara Luccarini.



Workshops with Carolina Becker.



Working as a music therapist with autistic children, caregivers and hyperactive children. Working on my thesis on "Creativity and improvisation as a way of healing".



Jazz Degree, specializing in guitar at the University of Évora, Portugal.
