Janina grew up in Stockholm, Sweden, and that is where she has lived and worked until very recently. In the fall of 2008 she packed her bags and moved to New York, where she is now working on her second album.

- Having the opportunity to move to New York, and put all my focus into my music is a dream come true. Sometimes you just need space, and a change of environment to make things happen. That’s what I have now. I’m in a city that inspires me to be creative in so many ways. Let’s see where it takes me!

Janina is inspired by intimate artists, like the Irish singer/songwriter Damien Rice. Without sounding at all like him, she sees a kindred spirit in him: an artist, with a genuine presence and an ability to catch the attention of a live audience, even if they are not familiar with a single song.

The debut album “Janina” was released in Sweden in 2006, when Janina was 21 years old. All songs are written by Janina herself, and the album was produced and recorded by the Swedish star producer and songwriter, Peter Kvint.

Svante Henryson (who has played with Ryan Adams, among others), Magnus Persson and Sven Lindvall are just a few of the highly established Swedish musicians that worked on her record.

Janina writes all the time. It doesn't always turn out as a song, sometimes there’s only a few words here and there. But then there are moments when those few words suddenly grow into a song, and when that happens, she never understands where it comes from. The lyrics and music takes a life of their own.

- Writing is a very important part of my life. I mostly write to communicate with myself, as a form of therapy. But in the long run I really hope my songs are something everyone can relate to.

Janina also points out that not all lyrics are autobiographical.

- There are some fantasies and made-up stuff in there as well. And the things that are “true”, don't necessarily deal with my own life. I reflect about everything in my surroundings. I think that is one of the wonderful things about being a creative soul. You’re allowed to make things up, you’re allowed to dream yourself away to those places where you might never come in real life.

As a live artist, Janina has a lot of experience, mostly from Sweden. She’s been touring continuously around her home country during the last five years and she made great impressions at the Dubai international Jazz Festival this year.

Janina connects with her audience in a very natural and sensitive way. Without exaggerated poses, clothes or long stories between the songs, she creates her very own musical universe. You are welcome to visit it for as long as you like.
