Born Gemini. a gifted baby girl was delivered and given the name, Jamika Jasmine Hobbs from Roxbury’s Academy Homes located in the project’s based development of the inner-city neighborhood of Roxbury in Boston, Massachusetts, one of Boston’s roughest neighborhoods.

When she was 8 years old her mother moved the family to Atlanta, Georgia to pursue a better life for her and her children. The family lived in ATL for 2 years in and out of shelter’s and schools. However, The LORD allowed the family to find a way to stay SANE!! This lead to Jamika finding love and passion for writing music and dancing. Growing-up her home was filled with music! Everything from Gospel to the Oldies, and everything in-between.

At the age of 10 Jamika danced at family functions, cookouts, birthday parties, and etc. When she was 12 she started rapping, her older brother would write some of the lyrics, Jamika would re-write and perform the songs. With the Love of music, Jamika felt she needed to express her love through dance as well as vocally. Jamika explains in her own words, “I met this guy who was deeply into rapping who asked me if I wanted to be in a show with him, so of course I took up this opportunity. He wrote some lyrics for me, and when I got on that stage the CROWD went CRAZY. That’s when I woke-up, and realized I found the two things that complete me, which are dance and rapping.” She did this as a young child by performing in talent show’s, and school performances. In the early nineties (90’s) she was a member of an all girl dance group named, “Ruff & Tuff”, then an all girl rap group called, “Untold Soulz” which helped her develop her rapping skill’s (both on the mic and performing live).

On March 03, 2005 she lost her older brother, Jerome Eric Hobbs in a car accident and it changed her life in a “Major Way”!! “To me he was my BIGGEST FAN!” “I remember when I went for the audition for the T.V. Show, “RU the Girl” with T-Boz and Chilli (TLC) he was so happy for me. He gave me pointers and even help pay for my plane ticket to get to the auditions. He said, “Now you gotta dance like you never danced before and bring it.” I made it to the 2nd Round of the competition and I had to stay an extra day. “That Was One of the Best Feeling’s I have had In My Life”!! I called my sister and everyone was EXCITED for ME. I returned home, and in a couple of days later my brother, Jerome died! I never got a chance to speak to him when I returned home, because I was so tired from the trip from Miami (the “RU the Girl” auditions). But I know Jerome was thinking, “My little sister made it!!!” That’s the reason I KEEP PUSHING MY MUSIC CAREER. “Many people know me as Jamika, but it’s “PRETTY POISON” you have to WATCH OUT FOR. IT’S MY DESTINY!!!”
