Wiki:
Vancouver, BC's Jakartah is the musical partnership between Richard Fudalewski (vocals, guitar) and Robert Kyle Ledingham (drumkit, percussion). The band has released an album on torque/victory records worldwide, and has shared the stage with known acts such as These Arms Are Snakes, Akimbo, White Lung, Metz, Ghosts Of Modern Man, Daggermouth, A Textbook Tragedy, Callahan, Taxes, Savannah, Sports, and Our Mercury. The band has also toured relentlessly and has received critical acclaim in the press.
2011: The band has almost completed there second album.
Musical Style:
Jakartah ocuses on blending elements of classic rock riffage similar to the likes of Led Zeppelin and the angular, mathematical intensity of bands such as Botch
Formation & Early Years:
Jakartah originally formed in 2006 when Richard relocated to the pacific northwest and formed the band in the vein of post hardcore-noise rock.
During this time Jakartah signed to Torque Records (eventually Victory Records) in a mere 11 shows. The band's 3 song EP found it's way to powers that be at the record label and alas the band's debut album "In The Nervous Lights Of Coincidence" was released to the world.
The album was highly acclaimed by the press, especially in the united states. Jakartah toured relentlessly and received little to no support from it's label. The band decided to part ways with Torque as it's label, yet Victory Distribution still handles the distribution of there first album.
Modern era:
Once the band completed it's promotion for "In the nervous" Richard wanted to improve the band's music and part ways from being another "post hardcore/noise rock" act. Always striving for more Richard set out on this mission.
In comes drummer Robert Kyle Ledingham. The dynamic duo practiced, gigged and wrote what was suppose to be Jakartah's second album. After writing and recording the album for 2 years, Richard moved to Toronto, ON for a 10 month stint which in turn put Jakartah on hiatus.
Both Richard and Kyle experimented in other bands during this tenure and played the new songs under countless different band names: yellow knife, my mom's a werewolf, yell at birds (in toronto).
Upon Richard's return to the pacific northwest, he and Kyle decided to complete Jakartah's yet to be named, 2nd album - which is scheduled for release later this year in 2011.
PRESS:
"enough effortless time changes to keep your inner emo kid on his toes, and usually, they do it all in one song. Jakartah have produced an intriguing and, even with its potentially distracting smorgasbord of sounds, memorable debut" -exclaim!
"Jakartah's need to be understood outweighs the emotional posturing of rage that is too frequent in their contemporaries". -melophobe
"vocals freewheel between wailing, droning and shouting adding the compelling soundscapes the band builds. And that's what this band are: compelling" -rockfreaks
"I like that it doesn't just play up to various trends and fashions - this is a particularly untrendy album, and I say that as a compliment" -Punktastic
"Jakartah has a way of creating a truly unique approach that defies categorization in the best way possible". -Averisonline
"This is the Vancouver band's first full length. It's also kind of amazing, considering they released stuff of this caliber right off the bat". -listen to this once
"Jakartah are a product of a city known just as much for its salmon as its heroine" -winniecooper.net
"In the nervous lights of coincidence is a 4 and a half out of 5" - punknews.org
