Who is Jackie Breaks?
Confusingly enough she is the product of five very different men, from different countries (England, France, Greece), with different haircuts and a varying tightness of trouser, but with one common goal; to bring the raw guitar sound, with its attitude and energy, back to the classic pop song- something someone once called Indie rock. Her many influences include some masters of this genre; Pixies, Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, Granddaddy, early Primal Scream, Blur, Supergrass, The Lemonheads, Sonic Youth etc…
But somewhere along the line she has lost her way, and these pure and simplistic intentions have been polluted (enhanced?) by some alien influences; a flamboyant, pop chorus obsessed singer, a drummer who likes to funk it up, a bassist with a penchant for punk, one guitarist who’s an electric new-romantic and the other a rock god wannabe. She would shy away from calling it original (?) , for it is a deaf woman who thinks she is always creating something new in music!
Born in early 2006 in north London, she has managed to build a loyal fanbase and cover a good portion of the London ‘scene’; Barfly, The Fly, Enterprise, Dublin Castle, Hope and Anchor, Bull and Gate, Pleasure Unit to mention a few. Each gig more convincing than the last- more energetic, sharper, with heightened passion verging on psychosis. She has recorded some of her ideas and you can check these out in the usual places.
So what’s in it for you? Whatever you like really- just give her a listen, check her out live and then you can make up your own mind. She’s very approachable so don’t be shy…
