His first experience with music was at the age of 5 when he learned the flute in kindergarten. Growing up, he discovered his passion for the guitar which still lives on. Being influenced by all kind of guitar players from classical, rock, pop to funk, he played in several bands until he started studying music at the American Institute of Music in Vienna, Austria in 1993.
After his return to Switzerland he taught guitar in private music schools and did different studio recordings for various artists. Having played for many years in different music projects, as well as in cover bands around the country, in 2005 he joined the ambitious Swiss rock/pop band Poker Alice. In the years 2006 to 2008 he released several singles with the band, which have been played in many radio stations in Switzerland as well as abroad. A live album and countless live performances, including big open air festivals complemented these years.
In 2009 he left Poker Alice to join the spanish rock band Jaldon. One year later he started the collaboration with the author Sibylle Billa Ciarloni. Ivan Mangia wrote and recorded the music for the audiobook "Todesarten" which has been released in the same year. Live performances in Switzerland and Germany followed with the author. In 2011 he started recording his debut solo album "my veins" which has been released October 12th, 2012.
