Wall of sound guitar, clockwork precision drumming, and melodic basslines, under rough edged, yet sensual vocals provide the foundation for the sometimes moody, always powerful music of The Spiral Sound. Shying away from conventional songwriting, "alternate" tuned guitar, liberal used of reverb and delay, solid low end, and tight syncopated rhythms, allow a much larger and fuller sound than the band's three members betray. Formed in early 2002, Christian Mauch (guitar, vocals), Patrick Higgins (bass) and Paul Goetz (drums) began writing and performing under the name Black Lights, which ultimately resulted in the release of a full length album, 2003's It's Unamerican to be Sad, and an almost lost EP, (originally recorded in 2005) released in 2008, entitled Dirty Language. After several clumsy attempts at name changes, the band finally decided on The Spiral Sound in 2008. The band are currently working on a long awaited follow up to Unamerican, as of now untitled.
