Irie Sounds Bio

With branches in Kingston, Jamaica and Northern California, Irie Sounds is truly an international label and soundsystem. Originally founded by producer Dr. Suess in 2004, the label now has a solid body of work in a short time. in 2006. Dr Suess produced the Lead the Way riddim, featuring Ras Attitude, General Smiley, Rocker T, Binghi Ghost, Madi Simmons, Badda Skat, Jahshua and many more. Rocker T's "For all My Life" and Ras Attitude's "Lead The Way" were very successful, making appearances on mixtapes around the US. The next project was the album Justice Must Come with southern-california roots-reggae artist Steve Steppa. This album received rave reviews, and radio play throughout the US, Europe, and Jamaica. In particular, songs such as "Justice Must come", "Live On" and "Without You" have become favorites with roots and lovers rock enthusiasts. In Febuary 2009, the song "Without You" was included on a compilation by Zojak Records called "One Love Remains," available on itunes. That compilation also features Dennis Brown, Beres Hammond, Frankie Paul, Perfect, Queen Ifrica, and many more. Upcoming releases include Irie Sounds Vol. 1, a collection of some of our best productions from 2004-2008. Also, in 2009 we will release The Truthful Riddim, featuring many quality artists, and several single-artist albums.Irie Sounds has produced tracks for and worked with artists like General Smiley, Rocker T, Ras Attitude, Binghi Ghost, Steve Steppa, Al Pancho, Safira, Madi Simmons, Boom Viniyard, Fire Pashon, and many more.

While the label functions primarily out of Jamaica, the soundsystem is held down by selectors Robert Roots (aka Iggi) and Zion Cub in Northern California. Both helping to start the soundsystem end of the angle in 2005, they have built a strong reputation on playing quality music that appeals to a variety of crowds. Irie Sounds mixtapes have also become a favorite in CA, the first being in 2005 mixed by Robert Roots and Dr. Suess, called "Word Sound & Power." Other mixes have included the "Tuff Love" series mixed by Robert Roots and Zion Cub. Although focusing on the label aspect, Dr. Suess, who ran a radio show in California for 4 years, will occasionally select with the crew, just as Zion Cub and Robert Roots also contribute to the production of original music.
