Para conocer el origen de IN PENA es necesario referirse a otra banda: GHALADRIEL (o GALADRIEL en sus inicios), que es el punto de partida de todo, ya que tres de sus miembros fundadores forman la actual columna vertebral de IN PENA.
Desde la provincia de Valencia (España), los hermanos Carlos y Arturo Castaño, Jose R. Vicente 'Maiden' y Javi Penadés 'Carnisser', se propusieron dar a conocer lo que mejor sabían hacer, heavy metal, y desde 1999 hasta bien entrado el 2004 vivieron una intensa, bonita, dura e inesperada etapa bajo el nombre de Ghaladriel. Dieron guerra todo cuanto pudieron, consiguiendo arrancar siempre magníficas opiniones entre los medios especializados y del público a lo largo de todo ese tiempo. Tres fueron en total las demos que llegaron a grabar y a expandir por todo el territorio nacional y de las que revistas tan prestigiosas como: Rock Hard, Heavy Rock, Kerrang, Metal Hammer, Hell Awaits, Batería Total y Mondosonoro, así como algunas de las principales webs de metal del país, dieron buena cuenta de ello a través de abrumadoras críticas. Sin olvidar, por supuesto, las numerosas actuaciones realizadas a nivel nacional junto a bandas tan variopintas como: Mago de Öz, Marea, Saurom Lamderth, Áspid, Metal Mareny, The Bon Scott Band, Crienium, Opera Magna. y muchas otras más. Su futuro parecía muy prometedor, pero la mala suerte con los vocalistas hizo que no lograran firmar un contrato discográfico que, a pesar de tenerlo al alcance de la mano en varias ocasiones, nunca llegaba a materializarse.
En 2004, los cuatro miembros originales de Ghaladriel decidieron abandonar ese nombre y romper con toda la historia que él conllevaba para, tras un breve período de descanso y replanteamiento musical, dejar paso a otro proyecto con los mismos componentes pero nuevo en ideas, más fresco, con más fuerza e intensidad y, sin ninguna duda, manteniendo la ambición y el espíritu luchador de los antiguos Ghaladriel. Héctor “Bandarra” Cervera, un carismático vocalista, con una voz enérgica, versátil y muy personal, fue quien se encargó inicialmente de los micrófonos. En 2006 el trabajo culminó por fin con el soñado debut discográfico de IN PENA, titulado "Como Nacer de Nuevo" (Big Bang Music), del que recibieron fantásticas críticas, llegando alguna de ellas incluso desde el extranjero. Gracias a ello lograron compartir escenario con bandas como: Gamma Ray, Metalium, Azrael, Opera Magna, Stravaganzza, Bethoven R, etc. y a participar en festivales como el Panollo Rock 2007 y el Rock Stars Festival 2007.
Pero en 2008, Javi Penadés y Héctor Cervera se ven obligados a abandonar la formación por problemas personales y de salud respectivamente, así que la banda tuvo que buscar dos sustitutos de nivel: Rafa Rodríguez, músico de altísimo nivel, con larga trayectoria en bandas de rock y metal, que se encarga actualmente del bajo; y Kerry Varella, un experimentado gallego que tras varios meses abandona la formación debido a diferencias musicales con el resto del grupo. Entre pruebas y pruebas de cantantes, la banda no pierde el tiempo y comienza la composición de los temas que formarán parte del futuro nuevo material de IN PENA.
Ya en 2009, Isidro Tormo (también vocalista de Drakma), amigo desde hace años, decide aceptar ser miembro estable de la banda de forma definitiva, ya que había colaborado anteriormente con el grupo en varias actuaciones. Con la formación al completo, IN PENA se encuentra actualmente finalizando la grabación de su segundo trabajo titulado "En El Aire Está", que traerá algunos cambios significativos en su sonido, acercándose a estilos más duros y actuales.

To know the origin of IN PENA is necessary to refer to another band: GHALADRIEL (or Galadriel in the beginning), which is the starting point of all, since three of its founding members are the backbone of current IN PENA.
From the province of Valencia (Spain), brothers Carlos and Arturo Castaño, Jose R. Vicente 'Maiden' and Javi Penadés 'Carnisser', were proposed to share what they do best, heavy metal, and from 1999 until well into 2004 lived an intense, beautiful, hard and unexpected stage under the name Ghaladriel. His future looked very promising, but bad luck with vocalists did they failed to sign a recording contract which, despite having it within reach on several occasions, never materialized.
In 2004, the four original members decided to abandon that name Ghaladriel and break all the history that it entailed for, after a brief period of rest and rethink music make way for another project with the same components but new ideas, fresher with more power and intensity and, no doubt, to maintain the ambition and fighting spirit of the ancient Ghaladriel. Hector "Bandarra" Cervera, a charismatic singer with a strong, versatile and very personal voice, who was originally commissioned by the microphones. In 2006 work finally culminated with the debut album dreamed IN PENA, entitled “Como Nacer de Nuevo” ("How to Be Born Again") (Big Bang Music), which received rave reviews, some of them even coming from abroad. As a result managed to share the stage with bands like Gamma Ray, Metalium, Azrael, Opera Magna, Stravaganzza, Beethoven R etc… and participate in festivals like the Panollo Rock 2007 and Rock Stars Festival 2007.
But in 2008, Hector Cervera and Javier Penadés are forced to leave the band for personal and health problems respectively, so the band had to find two substitutes: Rafael Rodriguez, a musician of the highest level, with long experience in bands rock and metal, which is currently responsible for the bass, and Kerry Varella, a Galician experienced several months after leaving the band due to musical differences with the rest of the group. Among evidence and evidence of singers, the band wastes no time and starts the composition of the songs that form part of future IN PENA’s new material.
Already in 2009, Isidro Tormo (also frontman Drakma), friend for years, decides to accept to be stable member of the band permanently, as previously collaborated with the group in several performances. With band in full, IN PENA is currently finishing recording their second album: "En El Aire Está", that will bring some significant changes in their sound, approaching harder and current styles.
