"La vie commence ici", is the latest work of Quebec musical treasure, Marianne Trudel. The pianist/composer teams up with renowned New York trumpeter Ingrid Jensen (Maria Schneider, Dr.Lonnie Smith, Clark Terry), and the result is a blend of sublime artistry and inspired technique.

The Canadian musicians supporting Trudel and Jensen - Morgan Moore, Robbie Kuster and Jonathan Stewart - do so with a depth and intimacy that is rare in contemporary Jazz. Indeed, the term Jazz may be too constrictive for Trudel, who considers herself an equal balance of instrumentalist, composer, and improviser.

The horizon on this recording is wide for Trudel, and we hear a tapestry of styles emerge, from Keith Jarret to Maurice Ravel, to melodies that can be loved and sung by a child.

"La vie commence ici" is Trudel’s attempt to capture and make sense of a pivotal moment in her life. “We arrive at the end of our ‘30’s, and accumulate fears. …I would like to wipe the slate clean”, Trudel explains. This fresh perspective is evident in the tone of the album, which explores themes of affirmation, of self-reflection and acceptance, and of the natural world.

The pianist poetically adds pros to the instrumental CD's liner notes:

“In each leaf, each wave, each stone
Each gesture, each look
A laugh, a kiss, a tear
Oh! A heron! Did you see?
Life. Here. Now.
Every second.
Immense and fragile
Respect.”

“Life begins here, within ourselves, and here and now in this place, and time”. To Trudel the music is a metaphor for life, and being present is crucial to the experience. The music lays itself out, and we recognize a poignant tapestry of feeling, and sincere beauty.
