In 1997 Patrick Chan (then P.I.S. Patrick) entered the most respected rap competition in Denmark. He was young and inexperienced, but to his surprise he won one of the preliminaries and went on to the finals, where he sadly did not win. History repeated itself the year after: Straight to the finals, but yet again no win. Nonetheless he had taken the first steps in his pursuit of a career in hip hop and in 1999 Patrick released his debut album "Spektrum", which quickly sold out locally in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.

Niko started DJ'ing at different clubs at the age of 14, which is truly unheard of - even in Denmark. Then he wanted to make the music himself. Then that was mastered he wanted a go at the microphone and soon Niko found himself a member of a local crew called Zone 85 Fraktionen. In 1998 he met Patrick at the aforementioned rap competition and they quickly found out that they had something in common - both musically, but also personality-wise. Together with the battle rapper GDL they decided to form Alliancen (The Alliance).

Both have Asian backgrounds (Patrick is half-Philippino and Niko is Korean) and that combined with the fact that they made cold westcoast-inspired raps soon made believers out of both the public and their peers. They've made tons of unreleased material with among others LOC, Alias and the legendary Danish hip hop group Rockers By Choice.

At the beginning of the new millinium they decided to make a group album. GDL had left the group, so now the group counted only Patrick and Niko. They wanted to make an album that went against current trends. A classic hip hop album in the spirit of N.W.A. and Public Enemy when albums still had to be cohesive to matter. They only wanted to work with the best for this album and they wanted to take their time. It took a lot of patience. They soon found out that they wanted to make the ultimate 90s type westcoast album, but in Danish. The era they loved the most (Westcoast hip hop from 1992-1996) was to be resurrected in Denmark. Never mind Lil Jon and The Neptunes, this was to be based on classic G-funk!

While working on the album, in 2005 they also made a mixtape for people to download for free. The mixtape, "Farvel Til Hip Hop Vol. 1" ("Farewell To Hip Hop Vol. 1"), was downloaded no less than 2000 times in the first two weeks after it was released. It features DJ Noize (former DMC & NMS World Champ), TueTrack72, ChiefOne, DJ Turkman Souljah and a gang of friends. The mixtape has since been taken down the same day Alliancen's debut album was released.

In 2006 Alliancen released their highly anticipated debut album "I Love Alliancen". The album consists of funk-inspired melodies, wry humour and stone cold raps. "I Love Alliancen" is a milestone for Danish hip hop and - as an extra bonus - for this record Alliancen worked with one of the legends of American westcoast hip hop, super producer Bosko, for a track aptly called "W". Bosko has worked with the likes of Kanye West, 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, E-40 and Limp Bizkit, so of course it was a pleasure to work with this man.

"I Love Alliancen" is westcoast hip hop with a Danish twist and the first three singles ("For Fanden Da", "Laidback" and "Okay") were quickly snatched up by the Danish national radio station P3.

The album is mixed and mastered by Saqib, who is famous for his production work for among others international sensation Outlandish.

The future looks good from here.
