Iconoclast formed in 2004 when bassist Mike Korn, guitarist Mike Corkum, drummer Mars Dej and vocalist Marc Bourgon began months of writing and producing song concepts threaded from their varied musical backgrounds. Iconoclast began to find its sound, making a name for themselves in their hometown of Ottawa, quickly becoming one of the biggest draws in the independent music scene. In turn, the band played to sold out crowds at Café Dekcuf, Mavericks, Zaphod Beeblebrox, Babylon, Capital Music Hall, The Bronson Centre, The Live Lounge, and Barrymore's Music Hall. It wasn't long before promoters in other cities took notice and Iconoclast was playing to audiences throughout Ontario, winning several 'battle of the bands' along the way.
Iconoclast's first EP, 2006's 'Home', was met with acclaim from an ever-growing fan base and critics, while garnering the attention of local media. Iconoclast has been featured on Ottawa's A-Channel, CKCU FM, and in The Ottawa Citizen and The Ottawa Sun. In 2007, Iconoclast were Grand Finalists in Live 88.5 FM's Big Money Shot contest, winning $10,000 in the city-wide competition. These trials and accomplishments have solidified Iconoclast's determination to write, tour, promote, and most importantly, perform.
Their 2008 self-titled EP was released to rave reviews and cemented their reputation as reliable openers for numerous popular touring acts. The lead single, "Nothing But Hell" was featured numerous times on nationally syndicated Fox Sports Radio program the JT the Brick Show. On the back of this EP, their high-energy and interactive shows have been described as "escalating rock mayhem" and have led to sharing the stage with such acts as Danko Jones, Apocalyptica, Theory of a Deadman, Wide Mouth Mason, Grady, Sick Puppies, State of Shock, Age of Daze, Rocketface, My Darkest Days, Idle Sons, Money Money, Storm Large and the Balls, Hot Springs, The Golden Dogs and dozens more.
2011 was a busy year as the band recorded their first full-length album. Titled "Are We Dying", the album showcases Iconoclast's diverse and mature songwriting. Softer ballads with thoughtful, visual lyrics combine with their trademark pounding catchy riffs and soaring choruses. The record will be released on March 10, 2012.
Finally, Iconoclast has added a fifth member, veteran Ottawa lead guitarist Dave Di Ubaldo, who will provide another layer of hot metal to enhance the sound audiences expect. The band is stoked to hit the stage again after a long layoff preparing the new album, and are excited for fans old and new to hear the material!
