Rave Mag Dec05

Hipakusha have set a unique feel for the city of rock & roll. A vibe of parties at sundown, the Briz Vegas underground and chilling with the crew.

From humble beginnings, (that gets a little mysterious as you start to dig deeper), Hipakusha have emerged from the Brisbane underground as the Kings of Funk and Hip Hop. The feel of the tracks and the vibe of their shows have struck an immediate chord with the public. Led by Chico Mendez (Guit Vox), Hipakusha a.k.a the River City Crew, boast a line up of Paulie Dubs (Perc Guit), Dan (Beats), A1 (Bass), Saul (Keys) & DJ Bruxism (Decks Noises). This large line up brings an immediate party vibe with a superfly swagger.

2005 was the first year back in the public for the River City Crew. Playing residencies at such illustrious venues as The Press Club & Family, Hipakusha also hit the stage at the Rev, The Zoo, The Sol Bar, Tongue & Groove & The Soundlounge. Hipakusha also played with such acts The Res Dogs, Good Buddah, PTY LTD, Elation, The Dynamic Thrills & Kid Confucius.

Hipakusha released their debut EP in October 2005 at the The Zoo, Brisbane. Supported by Sydneys Kid Confucius, Hipakusha raised their local and national profile. This included being the JJJ unsigned find in Sep 2005. The songs of the Grand Royale told stories of casino heists, nightclub antics and chilling with the crew.

After some unwanted trouble with the fuzz, Hipakusha are currently at Airlock Studios, recording their double A side radio release tilted The Lowdown/Scimmage. Working with esteemed producer Anthony Lycenko, 2006 looks to continue bring a new legion of fans to Hipakusha, The River City Crew
