"Sloppy Seconds" EP (January 2008)

CD Review in Tastemakers Magazine

by Ben Gram

Highland Pines. Need I say more? Yes. Why?

Because they are one of the sickest metal bands you haven’t heard of, and that’s a problem. With their second release, tastefully dubbed Sloppy Seconds, Highland Pines take another step forward in proving their grounds and holding their own among the metal masses. This album blends in a few freshly mixed classics such as the explosive “Fire! Fire!,” and the if-you-aren’t- moshing-and-going-effin’-nuts-to-this-you’re-probably-dead track, “The Flood.” Sloppy Seconds also dishes out some new soon-to-be favorites like “Wheelchair Walkathon” and “The Scenic Route,” both of which are rich with brutal breakdowns, badass riffage, and enough drop C crunch to crush a semi-truck. After listening to songs like these, it reminds you why our country was founded on that timeless adage spoken by Lincoln, engrained in the Constitution, and written in bold on the back of every $100 bill: “Once you go Highland Pines, you never go back.” Fact. [ed. - Not really a fact.] NOTE: For optimum consumption pleasure, Sloppy Seconds is best served at very loud volumes with a tasty cold beverage in hand. Enjoy!
