Born in the rural village of Kill, Co. Kildare, Ireland, Talbot began singing in the church choir run by her mother, Rosaleen, meanwhile absorbing the vibrant array of music that filled the family home. At sixteen, she enrolled at Dublin’s celebrated Bel Canto singing school, studying for the next year and a half under its founder and director Frank Merriman - “the best teacher in the universe,” according to Sinead O’Connor, another former student. Her next move was to New York, where she spent two years working the Big Apple’s bars and clubs, honing her voice and style amidst the city’s vibrant musical melting-pot, before being invited to join Cherish the Ladies in 2002. In between the band’s hectic touring schedule, however, Talbot continued to develop her solo work, releasing Distant Future on top Nashville roots label Compass Records. Produced by John Doyle, the record featured such distinguished guests as multi-instrumentalist Dirk Powell, concertinist John Williams and fiddler Rayna Gellert. Three years on, the recording of In Love and Light coincided with her decision to leave Cherish at the end of 2007.Talbot's 2008 CD, In Love + Light, propelled her into the spotlight as a singer with a hunger for lyrically challenging and melodically inventive songs. Produced by Eddi Reader regular Boo Hewerdine, In Love + Light set Talbot on an Indie path that celebrated her traditional influences while giving her distinctive voice its own space. She is no box-ticking singer in search of a cosy lounging space, but an artist invigorated by the search for alternative ways of inhabiting a song. Heidi tours as a trio with multi instrumentalist John McCusker and guitarist Boo Hewerdine.2009 has seen Heidi tour as the support act and backing singer for Eddi Reader on her 45 date tour of the UK and Ireland. As well as her own sold out concerts and festival performances, she’s toured extensively with new folk supergroup Drever, McCusker and Woomble. When not on tour Heidi is in demand as a recording artist, singing on new records by Idlewild, Eddi Reader, Michael McGoldrick and Kris Drever. In Love and Light won an Indie Acoustic Award for best album and Heidi was nominated for Best Female Vocalist at the 2009 Irish Music Awards.Heidi’s new album The Last Star will be released in the Summer 2010. Produced by John McCusker and featuring some of Ireland and the UK's finest musicians and singers - Eddi Reader, Karine Polwart, Michael McGoldrick, Phil Cunningham, Kris Drever, Alan Kelly and more. The album features songs traditional and new including songs written by Heidi, John McCusker and Boo Hewerdine.
