Holy Eyes

In 1995 Holy Eyes, still working under the name “Heilig IJs”, began writing socially committed underground hiphop tracks. Over the years, the crew has gone through some major changes and has finally developed into a three member group with very different musical backgrounds and a joint passion for positive and high-quality music.

“With positive hiphop, ingenious beats and great scratches, Holy Eyes presents us with something very pleasant”

Anne Broekman, website 3voor12 Utrecht (28 jan. 2008)*

Whether it’s creativity, business or design, each of the members brings his own talents to the table.

This makes them able to manage every aspect of being a band in-house.

For example: Holy Eyes make their own press photo’s, video’s, website, flyers, buttons, t-shirts and they produce their albums entirely by themselves.

Also promotion, communications and bookings are handled by the band members.

Holy Eyes has not been sitting around waiting for something to happen.

They were one of the first Dutch hiphop crews to develop a unique show for home-shows.

Holy Eyes has a special love for sharing their thoughts through their music during an intimate show at people’s homes. The past few years they have done a lot of these shows in the Netherlands, France and Scandinavia, climaxing with a two-week ‘Tour of Homes’ on the west coast of America.

“Touring through Europe and the United States, and meanwhile dropping a great concept album.

These guys take their work seriously.”

Frans Petersen, State Magazine (22 jun. 2007)*

But Holy Eyes is flexible. They put up great shows in clubs and on festivals.

They have played big stages in the Netherlands and national and international festivals like Frizon (Sweden) and Freakstock (Germany). Holy Eyes has played with the top of Dutch hiphop artists and with international artists such as John Reuben, LA Symphony, Mars ill and Listener.

Through the experience of working with these artists, Holy Eyes developed their own style.

They started off with raw hiphop beats, but now they’re writing more and more ‘real’ music.

Holy Eyes doesn’t make tracks, they write songs. In order to write these songs, Holy Eyes called in a multi-instrumentalist to complete the trio. The musical character of their music appeals to a broad audience.

“I’m not the biggest hiphop-fan in the Netherlands, but this is certainly very interesting!”

Jochem Geerdink, Metro Nieuws (Uitzending Utracks, 23 jan. 2008)*

Note: Holy Eyes’ most recent release ‘Music is Evil’ has been awarded the title “Demo of the month” in January 2008 at the “Prayer for my Demo”-show on Utracks radio!
