Harry Brown MMus, BA (Hons), LRAM ARAM
Associate of the Royal Academy of Music,
Trombone, Composer & Musical Director
In recognition of his significant contribution to the music industry Harry Brown was made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in May 2010.
My musical background stems from the church and was nurtured at a very early age and still is today as my role of Church Organist at the Assemblies of the First Born Church (AFB), Battersea. My mother, Evangelist HH Brown, who was the organist and choir director at the aforementioned church, nurtured my musical talents by teaching me music theory, piano and Hammond C3 organ long before I discovered the trombone.
I was blessed by many inspirational trombone teachers and ‘trombone daddies’ in my early trombone life (before university), namely Tony Hogg, Colin Sheen, Cliff Hardie and Phil Brown – all of whom I owe a great deal of thanks as well as the legends in my Myspace top friends who have helped me out from back in the day: Dennis and Winston Rollins and Ashley Slater. I would also like to thank Fayyaz Virji, Pat Hartley and Richard Henry for their early words of wisdom back with the Jazz Warriors, as well as all the musical legends (listed below) that I have worked with and are close friends.
Since my first professional gig at 16 with the international renowned Jazz Warriors, I have been blessed to work many musicians around the World. Artists and producers performed with live or studio sessions include (in no particular order but most recently): Frank McComb, Adele, Jerry Dammers, Paul Epworth, Hal Willner, Jonathan Shorten, Plan B, Tom Jones, Massive Attack, Future Cut, Tom Jones,

Various West end shows and classical chamber music ensembles around the United Kingdom. Work above also includes live television recordings and broadcasts around the World. I am also an arranger for various formats and have acted as musical director for various projects. I have also worked with members of Beggar and Co and founding members of Light of the World on various projects. Whenever time permits, the Harry Brown Quartet comes into action - an all-star group featuring the cream of young British jazz. Every member is a leader in their own right and at the vanguard of international jazz. Energy, power and unbounded creativity are the trademarks of this exciting new group. Personnel: Robert Mitchell on Piano, Larry Bartley on Bass & Rod Youngs on Drums.
As well as my extensive performance experience, I was also awarded a scholarship to study for a Master of Music degree (MMus) at the Royal Academy of Music, London (1997 - 2000). My teachers included Dudley Bright and Simon Gunton (trombone), Susan Addison (sackbut) and Hugh Fraser and Mark Bassey (jazz).
