Guy Williams Jr.

Guy Williams, Jr., aka Boca Smole, began writing to describe his feelings of loss after a friend’s death in the summer of 1996. Following a stint at Northville High School, he moved to California to follow a dream that “everybody should live in San Diego once”. Traveling from Hawaii to Virginia, Guy continued to write and hone his craft, gaining a wealth of experience along the way.



In Early 2005, Guy decided his writing reached a level he was comfortable with and began performing. In 2006 Guy recorded his first 3 tracks with Pontiac, Michigan’s own, Keith “Bubby” Webb (rising star), and started a MySpace.com music page. Through MySpace.com, Guy quickly gained recognition, reaching 15,000 plays in a short 3 months and attracting the attention of Pat Bonish, Editor and Chief of Smalltown Lowdown Magazine. The Smalltown Lowdown Magazine published Guy’s work several times, further increasing his fan base and giving audiences the opportunity to experience his literary genius visually. The ability to market his art online has also allowed Guy to collaborate with several artists with an assortment of experience and backgrounds from all over the world. This is how Guy met his future band mate, Wex Wexford in early 2006. In addition to online marketing and promotional efforts, Guy has performed at a range of functions around the Detroit area.



My Head Radio (MHR) was born on March 8, 2007. Boca, Guy’s alter ego through MHR, and Doob, (Wex), formed an instant personal/musical connection and started putting an album together. Unlike traditional genres of music, the music for MHR is tailored to fit each piece. Guy records each set of vocals “how they’re supposed to go” and Wex uses the feel/mood to create the sound, giving the piece more “emotion”. They are calling it “21st Century Music”. Just over 2 years since conception, My Head Radio’s MySpace.com page has already surpassed 200,000 views. Their first full-length album, “On Air”, was released 2008 and they are almost completed with their second album, “Fresh Air” (working title). They had the honor of being finalists for 3 Detroit Music Awards this year and finalists for 1 in 2008. The award categories for 2009 were for Most Outstanding Recording, Most Outstanding Group, and Most Outstanding Songwriter in the Urban/Funk/Hip-Hop genre and for Most Outstanding Recording under the Urban/Funk/Hip-Hop genre for 2008. MHR’s music is played on radio stations all over the world including; Studio Brussel, WKUF 94.3FM, and GK Radio Europe. Guy is also a regular guest on the “Dr. Do-Wop Show with Dr. Franklin and Benny Jet” (from local super band Benny and the Jets) Wednesday nights, 5pm to 7pm EST on WPON 1460AM. There is a lot more in store for this melodic collaboration, also known as My Head Radio, and we all look forward to where it will go.



In addition to My Head Radio, Guy works with an array of musicians from all different genres such as local Bluesman, Paul Miles, legend Eddie Floyd, Jr., hip-hop genius Nadir Omowale, the Neo Soul icon Veronique, and the likes. Last year, Guy was a feature performer at the “Danny Boy Marathon” in Ferndale, MI. Along with Mayor Craig Covey, Guy’s name and band name made the front page of the Local Section of the Detroit Free Press as well as The Woodward Talk. Guy is currently working with DJ Reggie Reg, formerly of Hot 102.7FM, on his Cease Fire School Tour that is making it’s rounds to middle schools and high schools in Southwest Michigan sharing My Head Radio’s ultimate goal; educating and inspiring tomorrow’s leaders.
