"Grievous is a band that holds no struggles with representing, demonstrating and inflicting the very essence of it's title amongst their listeners. Upon review of their latest 'Erebus', I found myself trapped in dark thoughts, despair and hopelessness from start to finish. Grievous, in my opinion, have an ever present talent through narration, music and vocals, of raising the question in the listeners mind Do we not reap what we sow?. It's almost impossible to walk away from these 5 tracks without a sense of guilt, honestly believing our fate will become our own. The entire band demonstrates a tight professional unity, with a strong emphasis on a somewhat filthy down-tuned mood and feel. The sound quality and production is far from lacking throughout all five tracks. Aaron's vocals are strong, brilliant, consistently angry, a must for any band of this caliber. Grievous have the power of holding their listeners attention, not only through the incredible sense of dread they produce musically, but also through the intensity of the tales they unfold before us. A Voyage Disrupted is the absolute masterpiece of the entire album, followed closely by Mauling Towers Dry. An epic tale of mayhem and destruction from start to finish - sheer terror, global horror. make way for the apocalyptic doom known as Grievous!"

"Grievous plays chug-a-holic, anti social and disconcerting doom. Dark, down-tuned, blues-driven riffs with vocals that emit like curdling caustic fumes from the forgotten bogs of the dark lands. The subject matter of 'Erebus' is mostly a reflection of a frightened america with samples, clips, apocalyptic drones, undertones and musings. The overall sense that this is not just a doom metal album, but the soundtrack to the "end of days" is more than inherent. Musically depressing, with not a lot to make you feel good about life, or get you motivated. Personally, I assumed this album would sound much like the fantastic three song CDep, One breath from Winter (the first Grievous cd). I was very surprised to hear the level of departure and growth, especially in songs like Mauling Towers Dry which fuses said doom with a black metal mentality. with the slowest blast beats I've ever heard. A great album. file it next to Hellhammer, Yob and Burning Witch."

"This is a 3 song EP released in 2004 on Worm Fodder. How this has stayed so underground I'm not sure. Grievous should be a household name within the sludge/doom community. This wouldn't be so much of an enigma if the band had no talent to back it up, but they do, oh they do. This is dark and heavy all around with good production, interesting and hard hitting songs, and cool artwork. Heavy chugging, post-hardcore romp through the swamp. Like a sludgier version of Cult of Luna, the music sets both an epic atmosphere and a layer of filth to bury you under. Loads of hardcore bellowing and screaming and a groove to keep you lurching. Then comes the crawling, slow tempo with the infamous double bass roll. After you're done being smashed into nothing, with its own style and the omnipresent torn throat vocals. this (Grievous) is just a good solid molasses soaked slab of heavy, dark and slow."

"This is with out a doubt my favorite new band. fantastic doom, with deep throbbing bass and wahed out chugaholic stoner guitar, deep echoing drums and insanely sick vocals. every curdling scream. Starting slow and, taking me, the listener on a great journey. this is something you can listen to over and over again without impotence. I would equate One Breath from Winter to being lost in some foreboding north western woods, in mid winter. this album is fucking four stars!"
