Visual Population

Greg Fine is an artist that is not easily understood, marketed, or categorized.

His music comes from the wellspring of a limitless musical and spiritual world; It is not derived from the material world of commerce, image-consciousness, or fad.

This is not to say that he isn't good looking.

At his shows in intimate venues like The Living Room in lower Manhattan, Greg creates the sound of wild abandon. Open guitar tunings, ambient sound effects and a voice with a thousand shades are his tools to bring a world of infinite color to his listeners.

His melodies and guitar style do not fall into a specific school of training or genre, they are however memorable and definitely palatable. Greg is similar to Joni Mitchell or Jeff Buckley in that way, but like them, completely unique.

Greg sings in an earnest but soulful voice reminiscent of David Gray, but often breaks into a soaring falsetto that sounds like Chris Martin of Coldplay, only better. Greg's songs are about the joy and trials of life from a spiritual perspective. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Qawwali singing come to mind. In that tradition, the expression of the voice supercedes the actual words that are sung.

Greg Fine is an artist that must be experienced live to truly understand.

His talent is transparent; Seamless, but its apparent that the guy's worked hard to share his talent with the world. You must see, no, Hear for yourself.

One word comes to mind when describing Greg Fine; Soul. His voice is nothing short of angelic and his poetry is nothing shy of inspirational. His sense of both melody and harmony are in a word; Beautiful. What Greg brings to his band is a presence that exemplifies soul- centered clarity. Greg projects his inner soul in such a manner, serving to remind that music is a language that is truly god given. He is an artist who will undoubtedly uplift all who listen and will surely be appreciated by a universal audience. A. Valerio

"It is indeed a true rarity when a local artist generates a natural sense of presence, both on stage and in the studio."

Review of Greg's EP, 'Profile' by Discovering Artists:

With a captivating acoustic-driven sound backed by semi-somber rhythms, this album is a great sampling of a full-length collection to hopefully soon come. I didn't get into the lyrics at first because this guy's voice kept taking over — it's divine. The sound is Glen Philips meets Gregory Douglass, and it's stellar. Infused with a little funk and a whole lot of layered piano and guitar, it's no doubt that this guy has a bright future. "254" is a medley of just about every musical style out there, and in it, Fine wails, "And in this haze/Is everything/And in this rage/Is everything." "Shine" is a straightforward, heartfelt acoustic tune with Fine's entrancing voice filling up the gap between each strum. Lyrically, we're looking at simple stuff, but still in poetic style. Did I mention this guy has mad potential? Yah, I did. But I just wanted to remind you, because you'll be hearing more about him on our site – no doubt!
