Most people would agree that music has played a major role in their
life. There are certain songs that can be a pick-me-up for a bad day
and ones that can make a good day even better. If you think back to a
great night, you can probably remember what music you listened to and
what song kept you up singing and dancing the night away with your
friends. It's because of the power of songs like that, the ones that
leave a lasting impression on you, that the members of Greater Than
Giants started playing music. They have always sought to churn out the
kind of songs that can build strong memories and bring people
together. Their music is a reflection of the lives that they lead- and
it's all about having a good time and listening to great songs while
you do it.
Greater Than Giants is a 5 Piece Pop-Punk outfit from Edmonton,
Alberta that has been taking the country by storm for almost 5 years.
The band started off small by garnering regular local TV and radio
play to help carve out a name for themselves. Countless high energy,
high profile hometown gigs followed, leading to well over 250 shows
across their homeland of Canada, hitting up the biggest of cities and
smallest of towns along the way. All this has given GTG a well
deserved, cult-like following in Canada's underground music scene that
is continuously growing. They've developed a fan-base across Canada
that is both extensive and devoted. GTG songs have been popping up as
the soundtrack for extreme sporting videos and home movie montages of
good times. Seeing this enormously positive feedback not only from
hometown friends, but from complete strangers thousands of miles away,
has invigorated the band's passion and cemented the fact that their
music is making an impact.
The band has been slowly progressing and growing over the last half of
the past decade. The 5 current members got their start playing in a
variety of genres and bands across much of Western Canada. Whether it
be Progressive, Punk Rock, Acoustic, Indie, Post-Hardcore, Metal or
Reggae, members Tyler Cerda (Vocals), Ryan Brodziak (Bass), Tim Wilson
(Drums), TJ Day (Guitar) and Wayne Mclellan (Guitar) have played it
all. Combining their past experience and musical influences they have
come into their own as Greater Than Giants- giving their own take on a
raw, energetic, melody driven Pop-Punk sound that many find familiar,
engaging, and just plain sweet. This youthful, feel good sound has
deep meaning in the hearts of many people around the world, including
the members of Greater Than Giants themselves.
The band loves preforming live and what they bring to the stage is one
of a kind. It has been compared to a bunch of rambunctious kids at
recess, emanating more pure joy than a 6-year-old jumping off of a
swing set. Over the years, they have worked their way up from playing
in garage bands and at parties to earning themselves the privilege of
sharing the stage with bands such as Ten Second Epic, Strike Anywhere,
Gob, The Flatliners, Andrew WK, Living With Lions, and A Wilhelm
Scream, to name a few. Combining powerful, catchy hooks with a live
show chock-full of fast-paced energy and just the right amount of
groove, Greater Than Giants has been turning heads and busting out
toe tappin' melodies since they first began in 2006. With anthems like
"Oh what a time to be alive!" and "Let's set this night on fire!" they
demand that their audience sing along and become part of the show;
combining the love that the band has for playing music with their
audience's love for hearing it.
They have been eating value-menu meals, drinking 40's and peeing in
bottles, sacrificing the comforts of home to be on the road as much
as they possibly can while creating and sharing the music that they
enjoy playing so much. All the while they have kept true to a
constant: to hold absolutely nothing back in sound, energy or
performance. Each and every band member agrees that there is
absolutely nothing like hitting the stage and this became apparent
more than ever over the winter of 2010-11 while the Giants were,
ironically enough, not playing shows. After deciding to take an
indefinite hiatus (10 or so months to find themselves), the Giants are
back! They're a little older, a little smarter, a little fatter, and
have new tunes that they need the world to hear. The future is bright
for GTG, with plans to record new albums and light up every city in
the world with a truly memorable, energy-packed, live show.
After nearly calling it quits in the past year, Greater Than Giants
have returned and are in it for the long haul. If you haven't heard
them already, you WILL be hearing them soon. They're making sure of it
this time around. So crack a beer and pass it to the left, or whatever
else it is that helps you let loose, and spin some Greater Than Giants
while you do it. You'll be glad that you did
