Representing Columbus, Georgia, the GreaseKydz are four emcees: Expo, Phobro da Ab, Shawty Plx, and Tea Bag da Herbalist. Their sound, best described as Futuristic Ol Skool, is reminiscent of OutKast, Pharcyde, Souls of Mischief, and Leaders of the New School. In 1991, Terry Gordon (Tea Bag), a native of Washington DC, moved to Columbus, GA to form the Hip Hop group The Brothers Cubed with his cousin Eric Johnson (Expo) and Printon Peterson (Phobro da Ab). After recording the single Grease Kid, the group took on the title of the song as the groups name in the summer of 1994. The trio decided to add Alvin Davis (Shawty Plx) to the group after numerous encounters and freestyle ciphers with each other. The GreaseKydz began making waves in the Columbus and Atlanta, GA underground Hip Hop scene in 1996 with the release of their five-song EP dubbed Sampler no.1. A single from the EP, Silly Mortals, overshadowed the competition on a local radio station Battle of the Beats. Most recently, the GreaseKydz won the Ima Hustla Baby Award at the Sweet Auburn Fest 2003, performed on the Lyricist Lounge tour in Atl., in December 2002, and crushed the competition and won the 100 Emcees Battle on WRFG (Atl.) in 2001.In March 2003, the GreaseKydz released their first full-length album Grown Folks Music. A blend of old school and new school Hip Hop with a southern twang, the album brings a new, innovative sound with hard beats and intelligent rhymes. In August, GreaseKydz plan to release their first project in six years entitled 'The Big Bass Monster EP'. With production from the legendary Mr. Rastlin', you know it will be another classic. Simply put, GreaseKydz is da fy!! For more information about the GreaseKydz, log on to Facebook.com and join the GreaseKydz Fan Page.
